Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Clunky Charms I'm so happy for you...see I knew they would hatch when they were ready...gotta just let them do their thing...if the pip is flaking off or moving then she will be working again from the inside...yay! Can't wait to hear good news on your first....so exciting....
Well I woke up this morning to all my 11 eggs hatched to my amazement although I did loose one yesterday after she hatched so I have 10 chicks...I am very happy with that....and the one that I tampered with is doing great and running around (she would have hatched by herself if I just stayed out of the batoranyway...)
So I am finished hatching in my bator...I think my broody in the garage is due this weekend...she has another 9 eggs under her...
After work today I will move the last 4 chicks to the brooder then tak some pics....I have a couple of strange colored chicks but they are all the same strange color so can't wait till they're fluffed up....yay chicks...

Congrats on your hatch rate!! Not having to deal with shipped eggs helps out soooo much.

They shrink wrap because after they externally pip, the air in the incubator has direct contact with the inside of the egg. If there is not enough humidity to keep that membrane moist then it starts to dry out and molds to the chick. If it covers the nostrils the chick can suffocate. That's why it is so important to keep the humidity up during lockdown. As long as you went into lockdown before the first pip (which you did) you should be fine.
thanks for the info - - - I have the same two pips from yesterday but it is so quite and still in there . . . I have resisted the urge to open the bator. . . I need a sign

. At least the humidity was still at 68-70% so I hope they will be okay.

Also I have a little broody sitting and I want to pick her up and look but I fear that will hurt her eggs, I did it yesterday because the chick had fallen out of the nest. I pulled her, her eggs & nest out of the box and sat them on the floor of the cage so that if one falls out again it can get back in (her nest had been in an old cat litter box & the sides were too high for a chick to climb). I checked this morning and no chicks outside of the Mommy's nice warm feathers BUT I wonder if any more are there?

Yes this is correct...as long as the humidity is up for when they break through the egg at first pip then you are fine...the danger is once your eggs start to pip then you should never open the bator as the cold dry air outside the bator will suck the moisture out and shrink wrap will happen...your eggs will be fine...just give them at least a day from first pip before you even start to worry...
Well I have another two out but I lost one from before...not the one that I helped but one that hatched just before I got home...its head looked too big and it never stood up or opened its eyes...I knew there was something wrong and it was for the best...
So now I have 8 with two eggs left with pips...
Thanks- - - I am online right now so that I quite just looking in the glass for a sigh. I still have both vents open will that hurt or since the humidity is staying up should I be okay?
Congrats on your hatch!

As long as the humidity stays up you are better to have all vents open. They need the fresh air exchange.

I hate to give drastic advice but if the pips were 24 hours ago and nothing at all since you might want to pick a little shell only not membrane off and see if thelittle guys are still alive.I had one after 24 hours no zipping at all whos membrane was totally dry and pulled away from the shell..Just pick some off by his head only see if they are alive..
If so then wait a tiny bit see what he does if he doesnt do more then pick a little bit of just shell offf in a band slowly like he would zip it. .if you see ANYblood wrap the egg in a wet rag and put it back in the bator.Go around the shell little at a time and see if he can do it himself after eah little piece is picked off.A small blunt end tweezers works well for me.wet the membrane wth a tiny bit of water ad you go.Also have the eggs wrapped in a wet rag but not on his beak area .Learning center has a description how to do this and there are some videos on youtube too. you might watch before you do it.One gsl uses a knife blade.I wouldnt use that.Good Luck!

One little peep in one little egg and I can here it chirping humidity still at 63 dont want to open with the one peeping
