POISONOUS?! What!?

Yes the cedar oils are toxic to chickens and many small animals. I learned the hard way when my kids had gerbils years ago.

well the first four mille fleur d'uccle eggs didnt work out ....2 of them were clear, 1 had a blood ring (late), and the last 1 had a fully formed chick (that was in lockdown) but didnt hatch. the air cell was "u" shaped (because of being a shipped egg) and my power went out 1 day.

as for the 2nd hatching of mille fleur eggs: all four look to be good and are due to hatch around the 18th of october so getting close to lockdown with them. fingers crossed for them. the call duck eggs will be closing in on their due date after the second mille flleur eggs hatch.... so excited for the remainder of the month. my humidity goes from 60% (top end just after adding water) and 30% (low end before adding more water). the temps stay at 99.5 degrees. the lockdown hatcher i try to keep 60-65% humidity and 99.5 degrees.

Sounds like the second one should be right on target.

I know tomorrow is day 21 but I was starting to think that nothing was going to happen and it flashed throu my head...OMG! I do something wrong and they are all dead!

I just candle my eggs to check out how there are 3 I'll wait to see how they come along...3 maybe ones and 3 a big yes...one was so active it kept looking around at us with its big eyes. It was so cute!! Made my girls squeal in delight to see a baby chick still inside the egg....i just wanted to kiss the egg Yeah!!!!!!

As for ours, I'm worried and nervous. They're supposed to go on lockdown tomorrow night, but they're moving around so much that I'm afraid they will hatch into dry air this evening and die...it's far too early for this much movement, I think. 6 of the 8 are rockin' their eggs like a ship on a stormy sea. 2 of them are just slight wobbles (which I don't mind as much as the parties going on in the other 6). We shall see.

Move them to lockdown early? Is it possible your temp is running a little high?

It is possible that the chicks started developing before you received them. I would stop turning them now. If they are rocking they are turning themselves. Don't go into lockdown yet because you risk drowning the ones that aren't ready to hatch . As soon as you see a pip (if it's before lockdown tomorrow) get that humidity up and go into lockdown. As the chicks hatch the humidity is going to go up even more. Get ready you are going to have chicks real soon!!!!
