POISONOUS?! What!?So sweet!!! Are those cedar shavings? They are poisonous...
Use pine shavings. Cedar poisonous to chickens thats what I was told and they are simply adorable babies!!!POISONOUS?! What!?
I prefer hay over pine shavings for newborn chicks. But yes cedar should never be used.Well thank you so much for telling me! I ran down right away and replaced it with hay.
I absiloutley love my chicks! Do you have any idea what breed they are?
Guess what!
On their 4th and final try, my girls got what they wanted! Both chicks hatched yesterday afternoon which was day 19. The one under my blue silkie is an OEGB that's black with white spots and the one under my buff-blue is an OEGB that's yellow/brown with a white spot on it's head. I'm so happy! I can't wait to see what these chicks will grow up to look like. I will get pics soon.e

When I do them I start by making a small hole in the top of the egg to see if they have internally pipped and then peel away the shell going downward to see the membranes etc. I use a dissecting kit that I bought off of ebay. I wear protective eyewear and must look like a mad scientist when I am doing it.
