Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Guess what!
On their 4th and final try, my girls got what they wanted! Both chicks hatched yesterday afternoon which was day 19. The one under my blue silkie is an OEGB that's black with white spots and the one under my buff-blue is an OEGB that's yellow/brown with a white spot on it's head. I'm so happy! I can't wait to see what these chicks will grow up to look like. I will get pics soon.

CONGRATS!!!! Can't wait to see the pics!!!

Curious: What do you plan to do with all your new baby chicks?
If i have a good hatch, those are going to raise and be shown at poultry shows and sell some of there offspring..... eventually they might except the silver coloration down the road in the APA Standard. They are from winner lines here in the us and across seas. The ones that really don't make the standard are going in with my mix flock to produce some barnyard mixes for the eggs, freezer or friends that want some babies..I do mean a mix i have EEs three to be exact that each lay either the pink, blue and green egg and 3 red sex links. Those babies are going to be interesting to see.

I have to build a new chicken tractor this weekend to get one set of chicks out of one of my brooders or else it will be a trip to Walmart to buy another 50 gal Rubbermaid container for another brooder. With every hatch I do the excitement is always there. The stress level has gone down during the first 18 days but as soon as lockdown starts the stress factor shoots right up there. That's when I start second guessing myself and wondering if I really am "The Crazy Chicken Lady."
Lol i already know I'm the crazy chicken lady!!

My favorite brooder has been half of a 55 gallon plastic drum, it is ugly but it works well, no corners to pile up in, it has air hole drilled around the upper part of it for ventilation and chicken wire on top ( to keep the curious cat out ) Just scrub it out and store it in the shed in between hatches, had two of them, loaned one out, but did not get it back. Will have to make some new ones soon, after 3 years of using it, it is getting a bit banged up and rough looking, not that it was beautiful to start with.

We also made a whiz bang like plucker with one, works pretty good.
So cool :)
