Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Brook - Any chicken projects this weekend? Or am i gunna be the only one swingin the hammer? lol

I've got 12+ Serama eggs going in when they get here (probably Wednesday) and 24 more Barred Rocks at the end of the week....lol.

Leaving in a few minutes to go see a Serama show. When I get back I have major rearranging to do to get my new incubator set up and running. Tomorrow I have to start on a new chicken tractor for the 4 I have in the brooder.

Got 34 eggs locked down.

Candeled again this morning, I have two eggs that have an air cell on each end. And full in between

I have never seen this before, out of all of the hundreds of eggs I have incubated. Now I wished I had paid more attention to each egg, I have just been looking at the air cell end when candeling. But today I looked them over real well, checking for any cracks.

I am wondering if these two could be double yolkers, the eggs look alike, they are from a hen that frequently lays double yolked eggs.

Any thoughts from you guys ?

Maybe just bad eggs ?

They have veins in them.
Hmm, guess time will tell, if they do not hatch, will do an eggtopsy on them.

Super excited, the next few days are going to be killer waiting on the babies to hatch !

Mine go to lockdown today, got the brooder out and scrubbed out yesterday, will get it set up and ready to go this weekend. Will get the chick starter monday, so will be ready for the new babies when they start hatching on wednesday. No matter how many batches of eggs we incubate, it is always exciting!

I have to build a new chicken tractor this weekend to get one set of chicks out of one of my brooders or else it will be a trip to Walmart to buy another 50 gal Rubbermaid container for another brooder. With every hatch I do the excitement is always there. The stress level has gone down during the first 18 days but as soon as lockdown starts the stress factor shoots right up there. That's when I start second guessing myself and wondering if I really am "The Crazy Chicken Lady."

The Seramas I am setting as soon as they get here (shipped.) The Barred Rocks are local and the girl said they would be ready on Thursday. I'll pick them up in the morning and set them as soon as I get home so we are definitely going to be hatch buddies for those.

LOL my wifey thinks im crazy too, then she sees chicks and i get the AWWWW SO CUTE! lol The best hatch was the first one for me I think. had no clue when they got set, got a call late the night before i got them sayin "oh hey you had a dozen chicks hatch". I get there first thing to find 28 fuzzy chirping baby feathered wolves. 2 more the next day. Good thing as i culled about 30 hatchery chicks that just werent acting up to par the week before mine hatched.

In my last hatch I had one like that (2 air cells) and it never hatched. These were local eggs so no reason to think it got scrambled in the mail. I have one now with the 2 air cells (top and bottom ) and like you there was still movement and veining when I last candled. These are shipped eggs. I am candling again tomorrow night before they go into lockdown. If the egg doesn't hatch I will definitely do an eggtopsy to see when it quit.
