Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Brook your babies what cuties!!
Yes these last eggs are near white...I am wondering what i can see in them.Tomorrow is day7!!!I like to candle at day 10 but no way can i make that. HAHA.
I only let them sit 8 hours outside the bator.,.
Hope that wasnt a mistake though. The guy said not to let them sit more than 12 so i was worried he had gathered them days before It was my bedtime and 12 ours was like 2 or 3 am...so just popped them in in the carton..
Well one he said he just got out before meeting me so that for sure is fresh..
Anyway after about 24 hours laid them down.
SOOO will see.

Hey Everyone; my Broody Hen did it! 5 of the 8 eggs hatched between day 22.5 and day 23. I checked the other 3 eggs and they were just stink.

That was this morning, I came home to only find 4 chicks under my Hen, the smallest one is just gone. Not too sure what happened or where the chick is. If she was too weak would mom eat her? I do believe she ate all the shells because those had disappeared as well by the morning when I checked. Hen and chickies are in the coop with the rest of the birds, but no roosters. This is her first and my first batch of eggs.

Also The Rooster of these was a White rock, and the only Hens were golden comets and white rocks, so how did I end up with a mostly black chickie? Im still pretty happy even though there was a loss.

I'm so sorry to hear that the one chick is gone. Sometimes they know better than us when something is just wrong or off with a little one. So perhaps it was for the best. But at least you have some adorable little bundles of fuzz!

So I may have a problem... opinions please!!!!

I woke up to a perfect first pip! YAY!!

It pipped right at the air cell line. But then it started zipping, yay! Or so I thought. But then it started zipping low... towards the bottom of the egg. It zipped this low then stopped. I would not be worried if it was a normal zip as I know they need breaks from all of the work. But I am now worried because it's so low now and not moving at all. Sigh... Here is a picture of where it's been staying at now. You can see how far it is away from the air-cell line (drawn in pencil).

Mother nature always knows best. It could very well be that the hen took care of things. I don't know a lot about color genetics so can't answer your question about the black chick. Congrats on your new little fluffballs!!!

Congrats on the pip!! Sometimes when they start zipping they take a break for a while. Can you hear chirping at all? I know it's hard but give it some time.

Ugh.... disaster struck my little one :( I was watching for any movement and I look to see a little movement, then crack in the egg, very low again. Here comes the little beak... followed by yolk dripping around it. She/he had stuck her beak right through the yolk. Then I could see a ton of little yellowish air bubbles popping around it area. I brought the bator into my bathroom and turned the hot water on to get the humidity up to 75% then grabbed the egg out. I carefully chipped the egg away from the air sack first and then slightly lower. The chicks head was strait down, past it's feet. It quickly pulled it's head up and started gasping for air. I cleaned as much as I could around it's nose and beak and tried to wipe all of the air bubbles off. I layed it back into the bator (still half of it's body in the shell) in a wet wash cloth. The bator's temp and humidity never changed... except for going up a little bit. Hopefully it didn't inhale too much fluid

But it is open mouth breathing and I know that's not good...

None of the other eggs have piped yet, so hopefully I didn't hurt any of their chances!!!! But I couldn't just watch that little one drown...
