Setting eggs today 4/1/12 Anyone else?

I have no idea, I have never heard of that before. I am facing a dillema right now as well. I think maybe my muscovy might have started laying, I may have a duck egg or two in my incubator and have no idea how to tell the difference other than wait. lol.

I'm too new to incubating to have much answers for egg development... my only idea would be to just keep on incubating like you are and see what happens.

I have not noticed movement in my fertile egg yet, but I haven't candled it very much.

This is one of the best egg candling/development pages I have seen yet - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation

Hope this helps!

I am fairly new to candling too, so I have been keeping notes so that I can start recognising "normal" and "abnormal" developments, and so that I will have something to compare future hatches too. The hardest part is cracking open bad eggs! I am always afraid I am going to make a mistake and wind up killing a healthy chick!

Missymac- It will be interested to see if you have a little duckling running around in your bator on hatch day!

I am a terrible candler. lol. only one egg so far screams not progressing. I think I am going to attempt to stop candling until right before lock down. If that is even possible. What I do forget to do is turn the eggs...bad me. If I do not have any success this time I am going to invest in an egg turner.

I'm late getting in on this thread. I was trying to stay away because I just have the worst hatch rates. (0% in the incubator, 82% under a broody, 27% under a broody, 24% in the incubator, 25% in the incubator, 14% in the incubator...).

I waited until I knew I wasn't going to be sending on bad news! I have set a total of 59 eggs. 18 were shipped MF bantam Cochin eggs, 28 are my own blue/splash wheaten & wheaten Ameraucanas and the remaining 13 are my own MF and BC bantam Cochin eggs.

I set my first round on March 31st. That was 8 shipped eggs, 20 Ameraucana and 13 of my own bantam Cochins. 10 of the shipped eggs are under my broody BC bantam Cochin. On day 5 I tossed 3 shipped eggs and 5 of my own bantam Cochin eggs. I replaced them with 8 of my Ameraucana eggs, so I have another staggered hatch.

We are on day 10 and 5 and all 41 of the eggs in my incubator are still developing! If I have a decent hatch, I am going to be amazed - plain and simple.

Just finished up our day 10 candling and I could see babies moooving! Some of them were really jumpin around it looked like! It was too hard to see what exactly was goin on in there but those wiggles were enough for me.

There is only one that looks bad, I think it has a blood ring.. Reyvaughn I am jealous of your Wheaten Ameraucanas, good luck with your hatch!

I am still debating on what is better, start lockdown a day late with one batch or a day early with the other.... Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Finally candled, and only one is not developing - the polish egg. I was hoping that one would hatch, just to see what the heck comes out of the cross :) All of the blue eggs are going well though! Can't wait!

I candled last night on day 10 of incubation! All twelve eggs are developing nicely! I am very impressed with the fertility rate of my chickens! These are Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chicks! I am so excited about them hatching out on April 23rd! I set these eggs on April 2nd! I'll keep everyone updated and posting pictures! I'll candle again at day 17 right before lock down begins! I've got my fingers crossed. I have 7 eggs in another incubator that are due to hatch today. Every time I move through or around the room I'm stopping to check the incubator for pips! Its so exciting/stressful on hatch day! I want everyone to hatch out successfully! I candled on day 17 and all but one looked good. I wasn't 100% sure so I put it back in just in case! I'll post pictures of those when they hatch! Hopefully I'll be home for the hatch! Hatching is so exciting! Even my husband is getting interested because I've caught him peeking in the incubator a couple of times today! hehe! He's gonna get the fever too!!

Congrats and good luck, I too candled last night on day 10. Only 5 out of the 15 silkies I got online are fertile, but they are the most active. The dozen of my own are doing well and all are developing. I have 5 under my "mamasita" due two days later on the 25th!
