Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

I like this site. it shows an actual egg being candled with drawings ...each day 1-18.

I love that, it's really helpful - thanks!

I did candle one egg today (#2 - I numbered my eggs so I can keep track of them), but didn't really see anything. It was only about 48 hours after setting though, so I'm not too surprised. I'm going to try a couple tomorrow again and see if there's anything new.

ETA: Turned on the auto-turner this evening!

I candled two of the light eggs today and can see veins in one. I am not so sure about the other one it looks very clear yet. I have a lot of very dark eggs that I can not see into to well so I didn't candle them. I will candle again at 10 days.

So today is day 5 for my eggs and according to the development chart I read gender is being determined today. These are my neighbors eggs and I am hatching for her...she is hoping for girls. So all the girl thoughts you can muster would be appreciated today!!!

Can't wait for Wednesday, I am going to candle them all. :)

Well we set 40 eggs this evening 5/7 at 5:30 pm eastern so we are a few days behind but we will join in.. The incubator is not up to temp yet but it is creeping up slowly and should get there in another hour or so.. I will wait at least a week to check for embryos.. Started a status log and plan on checking conditions every 4 to 6 hours.. We have our rig connected to a large UPS system so power can be maintained for days if the power gets knocked out.. One less worry as we need to increase our flock size on the cheep.. It is an old little giant foam shell with egg turner and a home made circulation fan for the air.. Was letting a broody hen work but she has had poor success.. Buff Orphingtons and some mixed with Silver Wyandotte so only time will tell what they end up looking like..

Candled five just now, at about 35 hours. I saw a dark spot on three yolks at least, so hopefully that's good. Couldn't really make out veining, though. It's pretty early, though. I really hope I haven't hurt the eggs - the temperature in my incubator has been very wild.

Below is a picture of one of the green eggs, you can see small veins if you look close!

I also had to post a picture of Miss Skittles!

I love hatching eggs!!

Oh...I love broodies. Is Miss Skittles a Cuckoo Marans or a Barred Rock? She sure is cute! I really want to go candle my eggs, but I am going to make myself wait until Wednesday, that is day 7 for me. :)

She is a Cuckoo Maran! :) I was going to try to wait until then but I could not wait any longer!! :) Broodies are so much fun!

can i join in as well

i set 9 eggs on the 5/5/12 in my new JN12 (not 100% sold on this incubator ATM I'm still working it out)
this is my second attempt at this, so joining a hatch along might not be such a bad idea.

I have organized to get some Araucana eggs June/July and want to get some experience in before then, so I'm practicing with the eggs from my flock, Isa brown & white leghorn hens crossa RIR rooster
my first try of 6 eggs went for 7 days before calling it a flop, I'm now on day 3 and did my first candling tonight and 1 of the 9 has veins

hope there are more to come.
