Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

I set mine May 3rd at 6 pm. But I still figured lock down was on Tue. the 22nd. on day 19. I counted the next day as day one. Am I wrong? I have another group set to hatch the next week with lock down on the 30th.

I am not really sure. I have a schedule I found on here that that showed me what dates. I hope it is right. I believe I set them on a Wednesday, so they should hatch on a Wednesday three weeks later (ideally).

I have that also, however I heard on here someplace that it is wrong. They have lock down on day 18 and they say to count the first day as set day. who ever it was says it should be 24 hrs after the set day for day one. I think I will make up one of my own so I can get it the way I want it to be.

I have only had two chicks pip and one of them stuck to the shell :( . The other looks to be headed in the same direction. I really don't understand why this is happening. Everybody was doing great as of day 17. . .

Wish I could help you but don't know what to say. I don't remember what you said about your temp and humidity while you were incubating. It probably wouldn't help me even if I knew but it might someone else here. I am sorry you are having trouble. Hope the other one makes it better. Did you try to drop a little water on the dry part of the shell? Or wrap it in a warm wet wash cloth? I have heard that sometimes helps when the lining is too dry.

Good News/Bad News. The Good news is that the second chick made it out of the shell and is starting to fluff.

I also have 4 other eggs who have pipped and one is zipping and peeping as I type this. The bad news is that the first chick died in the shell. I tried to help by quickly getting it out and wrapping in a warm wet wash cloth. I removed the stuck edges of membrane and bits of shell and put it back in, hoping it would finish on it's own now that I had made it easier. I thought it was still alive as I could hear peeping. Turns out that was the second chick and the first was likely already dead when I took it out.

Does anyone know if I should take the dead chick (which is still mostly in it's shell) out now or wait until the hatch is over? I hate to keep fanning the lid.

I am not really sure...I would think it would be best to leave it in there, so the opening and closing won't make the others shrink wrap. You could take it out after they are all hatched.

I would ask in another thread, I am sure there are people who will give you great advice. :) Exciting about the others that are hatching!!!! Can't wait to see pictures. :)

Well lock down is tomorrow. But I am a little concerned about the size of the air sac. They are not as big as pics or diagrams I've seen. Kept humidity at 40%. But I can see them moving.

I set my eggs on the 1st of may and yest two of the eggs started to pip and I could hear peeps....however the one who started first has not made alot of progress in the pipping area and the 2nd one which started 5 hrs later has pipped, zipped and is out of the egg shelll even....what should I do?? Should I leave the 1st egg be or should i help him in anyway.....??? It has been almost 24 hrs since he made the external tiny hole and has only made a 1 percent change in it......really uneasy....really want him to make it as the others eggs in the incubator have not even pipped yet:(

I have read so many conflicting advice threads about helping or not helping. Sometimes I think it is best to not help if there has not been much activity because it is natures way of weeding out the weak ones. But at the same time sometimes we all need a hand up in life. I think it should be your call. I have read where people who have helped usually try to just take bits of shell at a time and and work fast, only having it out of the incubator for short amounts of time, and they stop if there is blood. I wish you the best with this. How many do you have in there total?
