Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

So....after a failed hatch on my first attempt with only one chick who eventually died 4 days later, I am going at it again this time with two incubators with 2 different environments....one is this dry incubation everyone is talking about and the other one is with a temperature of 100 and humidity aided via a water channel. I am on day 4 just now, lets see how this hatch goes, was really gutted from the last one and this time I am not trying to get so attached to it like last time and just keeping it very experimental....I know once i see the babys that will change everything...fingers crossedd:p

Sawinga,
I have another set going as well...I set them on Saturday the 26th about 6pm. Here's to a good hatch!

4 pips 1 wobbler. Two EE, one Red Star, and a mystery egg have pips. The wobler is also an unknown. I think I'm going to pass out... I'm SO excited!!!! And nervous. I'll update tomorrow..............

hahahah same here...I set them on the 26th arnd 8 in the morning.....so i think we will be neck to neck....do keep me updated.....heres to a great hatchh hopefully

Glad to see some of you still posting. I've learned so much from your experiences. I'm going on vacation in ten days and will have to hire a baby sitter for all these chicks. I have to change their water ever 20 minutes. They are so much fun. I always have one in my lap. I'm collecting eggs now to reset on the first. Don't know if I'll have enough to completely fill the bator, but they can be rockin and rollin while I'm at the beach.

I am going to be watching your experiment. I hope you have good luck on both of them. What are the incubators that you are using?

Sounds like we all will have this theard going for a while. I have eggs coming on Fri that I hope to set on Sat. I have 11 eggs in the incubator going into lock down right now. I hope they hatch all at once so I can get the other eggs in. I will have 30 to set then.

O.K. guys! I need help. three hatched but the third is still attached to the shell. What do I do? Do I cit the "thing" connecting them, or do I just let the chick do it by itself? I also think I have a shrink-wrapped egg. I put a sponge in. Two others are pipped, but I think they might be shrink-wrapped too. Humidity is at 64%. I,m SO worried!

The other two are fine. An EE and an Unknown. Very cute! I will post pics later. I have to grab the camera. Maybe I should find it first.....

Do a search for helping shrink wrapped chicks. I think you can do it in a really humid environment, like in your bathroom with the shower running to keep the humidity up and warm. When we ended up helping the two we had to, we just broke away some of the shell. As for still being connected, I think that is the umbilical cord...we had to cut it on the two we helped. I let them rest for a long time with the shell attached...then when they started moving around more and trying to drag the shell with them we snipped it off.
