Setting Eggs Today? I am, hatch with me?

Don't worry Lutz...we will be with you through your hatch though ours are finished!!! Have faith! Yours will develop great! I love the tip about the microfiber cloth. Need to remember that one if I ever try to hatch with a bator. Which I probably will (at least once to try it!)!!!

Good luck Erica!!! Keep us posted on the hatch!

Rosey...how is yours going? Keepig fingers crossed for all!!!

Aww! Misskitty, those are some cute little fuzzies!

The should be wonderful chickens, I just love mutts, and all that hybrid vigor.

Things are quiet here, yet.

I am cramming for a final and trying to be patient. I set my eggs at 10 pm on the 13th, so I am just halfway through day 19 now. I candled a couple this morning, just to reassure myself, and it looked like the chick was about to break into the air sac, you coulc see the shape of the beak pushing up the membrane.

I could really tell the chicks were growing , too, they were bigger-filling the shell more in just the last couple of days.

I am trying very hard not to mess with the incubator as much during lockdown this time.

I get so impatient, then start freaking myself out and fuss to much over my eggs. Some day ( a thousand hatches from now) this will be old hat and I will just forget that they are there.

So when will everyone here be setting again? I should be by Thursday, my next batch of shipped eggs are supposed to be mailed out today. Yeah I know I did it again, more shipped eggs.

Lutz, I will be hanging in here with you, I have a staggered hatch, the second half will be hatching around the 12th. You have to post pics of the keets, I have never seen them before. Are they as cute as chickens? Are they harder or easier to hatch?

Hope everyone is having good luck!

I get to do this again??? What?? It's a little hard to get my mind around that idea right now because I already have 2 brooders going and keets
fl.gif
hopefully this weekend - all in the dining room. Oh, and I still don't have a coop or chicken yard. I do have a cheap TSC brooder that I'm hoping to modify a little so that I can get these older chicks into the garage. I suppose I ought to hurry since keets could arrive within days now!

But, since I don't feel terribly successful, I may have to get some more guinea eggs from the lady I bought them from so that I can compare! They are in high demand around here since we have the 3rd highest lyme disease rate in the nation from the deer ticks and the marmorated stink bugs have completely taken over!

LOVE the broody hen!!! Told the hubby when we get "land", I am definitely hatching with a hen!

Today is day 18! The kids are super excited...me too!
My humidity is great, but now my temps are all over the place! I am going from 97 - 100 FI'm hoping the babies are going to be okay. I am so stressed out and excited all in one, if you know what I mean

I candled last night. I have 7 eggs with definite movement. I think the 8th egg stopped developing, not too sure so I left it. I had started with 12- 2 of them were duds and 2 had bloodrings. Not bad for shipped eggs!

We all keep walking by the incuabtor like it is going to happen now!
lol.png
Right now I have everyone eyeballing the temp...what is it now...what is it now...what is it now? I'll be glad when it is all over and they are all hatched.....OMG! they have to still hatch! Now I have to worry about that too! AAAHHHHH!

Right now we have 6 out of 11 hatched out. 3 are blonde and 3 are black just like the ones in my previous post. I am so proud of my Cinderella!!

She is a good 1st time momma! Hoping for more to hatch tomorrow! And maybe I can get the whole family together for a 1st photo to show all the surrogate Aunts and Uncles at BYC!!

Rosey, Erica, Momsflock and Lutz...I am not sure I can do the bator thing!!! I think all the variables, temps and humidity levels are too much to wrap my mind around. I can't wait to see how yours do though and maybe that will give me some sense of adventure!! I think for now, I am just gonna stick to the natural thing. And thankfully only one of my 29 girls are broody! Could you imagine if ALL of them went broody???

got home this evening I was kind of nurvous about humidity, when I dicided to open the bator to check water level and oh no I saw a pip on one of the eggs that my huby put in from one of my game birds I have, the hen was laying on it and for resons unknown she keeped changing nest, so huby put it in the bator. I new it was somewhere close to hatch date as the others. now I know, it is one of the first one. I can hear him pip, pip pip. aw I feel so happy

I have pips too, and I can hear the peeping!

I am totally there with the not sleeping thing, I didn't go to bed until 11pm and have been awake since 4am. I tried to go back to sleep but gave up just before 5 and came out to check the bator. My humidity was down to 51%, one of my sponges was dry, so I open to add water to all my sponges/dishes and have several talking back and forth.

I love it when they talk in the shell. I might come home to chicks this evening.

Erica, I am sure you didn't hurt that first chick by checking the incubator. Just get in there do what you need to do and get out. When I go in at this stage I just stick my arms in and look through the window so I don't have to totally remove the top. That helps to reduce how much humidity and heat I lose. Good Luck!!

Gonna cram a bit more for my final this morning, but its my last one this semester!

Congratulations! Please post pictures!

I just saw that my bator was at 102.5! It's held so steady so far. I opened it up for a minute to speed cooling a little. Hopefully I didn't just cook all the little nuggets. I have 4 that are clearly almost solid with keets and a number of others that I can just see a small shadow and air cell, but I'm too afraid to pull them out! I suppose I will at lockdown.

Can someone please just reassure me that there isn't a miniature keet in those bright eggs? It's day 20 for me, and keets usually run 26-28 days...so I guess it's the equivalent of day 14 or 15 chick days? Lockdown is day 23 (Friday).

I'm thinking it would be cheaper for me to invest in a broody hen than a Brinsea!! Thanks alot - I wasn't even thinking of a "next batch" until you guys mentioned it.

I set 13 Icelandic Chickens this morning - I have 4 from the last batch due to go on lockdown Sunday (they will be my 1st hatch)

Scared to death that I did it wrong
he.gif

They are due to hatch on Wednesday of next week
