Setting eggs tomorrow, anyone want to join?

Yeah I had my incubator in my basement last year (the rest of the house isn't stable either, no A/C), and got TERRIBLE hatch rates, 0.05% if I remember correctly. Absolutely awful hatching year. This year I've got my Brinsea Mini Advance set up in my room (so far the temperature has been okay, I keep my door closed 24/7), so hopefully it'll work out a little bit better this year.

I can't do much hatching this year anyways, but I figured I'd try.

My basement is a very cool 53. I guess I didnt realize how cool it was. Being menopausal, hot flashes are killing me, the basement felt perfect to me.....lol I brought incubator up here and it has held a steady temp now, fingers crossed. I have 6 in and 2 more to add later tonight!

That's wonderful, I hope that it stays steady for you. Your birds sound like they will make nice mixes. :)

My hatch this time around is mainly to practice because I will be getting Guinea eggs in early April. :)

Ok, so I decided to candle again when I did my first turn a few minutes ago. I see some yolk shadows in all 5 of my D'Uccles and in some of my black Austroloprs. I *thought* I saw a yolk shadow in my blue Ameraucana, and defenetly in my 1 leghorn. Everything else is the same as yesterday. I am going to try really hard not to candle again til Friday but I can't promise anything. I was very careful and was very quick so I could get them back in the bator. I added a teaspoon of water to the bator because I dropped down to 18% humidity and I would like it to get back up to 30%...

LOL you sound like me! I checked again for eggs before I put the girls to bed, and my 2 hens I was wanting to get at least one more egg from, didnt lay

. But they are both on a nest this morning. So I think I will still get the 2 and have them as late hatchers. Having 3 of each will put the odds much more in my favor. I have only one of each in my flock so I really would like to get a couple to hatch!

I am THE MOST impatient person you will ever know, so this is a really huge challenge for me, which is part of the reason I am doing this! Hopefully to discipline myself, but since I am doing a dry hatch, I want to keep very close on my eggs to make sure they are developing. In a couple of the yolk shadows I could make out a really tiny dark spot, so I'm really really hoping that is the embryo starting to form! I can't wait to candle again!

I am with you there, blzzrdqueen! I am doing my utmost best not to go down and check on them several hundred times a day. It has only been a day and I'm already antsy. I keep telling myself that there's no guarantee that any will even hatch so not to get too excited, but I just can't seem to help myself... Longest three weeks....ever :(

I set eggs on the 11th at 7:04 pm. I'm pretty excited. I only set 10 from my own adult chickens. I have 3 eggs from a barnyard mix hen, 4 eggs from a Buff Orpington, and 3 eggs from my leghorn ( or leghorn mix) hen. I have 3 roosters in the coop as well, but only ever see my big white rock roo doing the deed. I see the others trying, but the big roo doesn't seem to let them finish. I have no idea what might hatch out of the eggs. That is half the fun. I hope some of them hatch. I haven't come across an unfertilized egg when making my breakfast, so I am assuming they will all be fertile. I only have 3 hens that are laying, and 3 roosters...so if someone isn't being fertilized something is wrong. I have 4 pullets at the Point of lay, but they haven't actually started yet. Anyway...I'm hoping to try my hand at candling at the 10 or 11 day mark if I can wait that long. I weighed all the eggs before setting them. The buff Orpington's eggs weighed in between 63-73, the barnyard mix weighed in at right around 47g. 2 were 47 one was 52...The Leghorn(mix?) eggs were all around 63. I was going to weigh them again today to see if there is any difference...I don't know if there should be or not...but figured I would check to see if they are losing any weight already.
