Setting eggs tonight anyone else?(10-14-10) pics added

I peeked last night, day 4, and I see 8 out of 13 with something! Hopefully I can tell better in a few more days what's happening with the other 5.

I have 10 cochin coss eggs that i set las weekend. They will be hatching right around the same time. Mine will be a few days older than yours.

I also have some button eggs and some coturnix eggs that i put in on monday. They will hatch just a bit after the chicken eggs.

As for the checking the incubator thing. You could always take out the automatic turner and turn the eggs manually if you have time. This gives you an excuse to check the eggs about 4 times daily and have it be an actual reason.

You're lucky you can candle. My candler broke, so i have to just wait and see.

Heck, all I have is a flashlight. And I too use the turning excuse. Well actually it's repositioning. I have a turner but the eggs don't stay perfectly pointy end low (the smaller eggs) so I have to mess with them!

My turner broke and I haven't found a new one, so I have the turning excuse.

I did drop an egg yesterday and it was fertile. I felt terrible.

I have a homemade bator following the plans for the Gopher Bator. I have to manually turn the eggs, but this is done from the outside. I don't have a candler, I just used a flashilght and moved quickly as I didn't want to drop an egg or move it around much. I guess that is kind of silly since hens move and turn them and sometimes move them to new to different nests. I have settled down about hovering over bator, the temps are now very steady.

Candled tonight day 13 and had 1 quitter and 1 blood ring

On the up side i still have 10 that appear to still be developing. They all have about the same sized air cell and I thought I saw movement in several of the eggs as I was candling. Anyone else?

What do you mean by blood ring?

We're about a week into incubating and candled last night. This is our first time using an automatic turner, and it seemed like a lot of the "stuff" in the egg was more settled towards the bottom (opposite the air sac). Lots of development in a bunch of them. Had to remove 9 of the 23 that we either bad or were unfertilized.

(Oh, and we're doing ducks, not chickens ... but I guess it's mostly the same process. Hehe.)

we go into lockdown tomorrow, but i set eggs on the 15th and 16th. set one on the morning of the 17th too, so i'll likely not lockdown until tomorrow night. might not get that one to hatch but it was worth a try.
