Setting Hens 1st eggs Today Aug 30, Maybe they will hatch, Join Me!

I also set eggs on the 30th! Woohoo! I have a hatching buddy! I set silkies, orpingtons, ameraucanas, and wyandottes. So far my temp and humidity have been perfect, which is some kind of record for me! I got the bator last December and could hatch hardly anything. I bought some pretty pricey eggs and none hatched. Tried again and I got three. So I'm thinking that winter hatching was a bad plan. This is the first time I've mustered up the courage to try again. Maybe summer hatching will work for me!

I'm in i put my eggs in on the 31st...58 ee's ..my first attempt ..good luck to ya'll..

I Candled this morning and I think I'm seeing what I'm supposed to see. most have the large dark spot that has grown since yesterday( yep, candled yesterday to) On a few i noticed the small spot and some veins that are coming out of the small spot. I'm hoping everything goes great, even though I don't think I'm gonna keep any on them.

I have a small container of sand to measure the egg temp. I've noticed it's staying at 98.9 so I keep turning up the water thermostat.

Anyone else candle yet?

greenpeeps...how do you set up the sand? do you just have a remote thermometer stuck in a cup of sand? I have looked for one of those water wiggler toys to do that but couldnt find one..good luck with your hatch..I havent candled mine yet.

ronniewayne, I used a small pumpkin toy and filled it 3/4 of the way with sand. I've seen where some people use plastic Easter eggs, or small pill containers. Just keep it similar in size to your eggs. I am using a fluke meter, thanks to my husband, to measure the temp of the sand. There's a lead that goes from the meter to the middle of the sand. Any thermometer that goes upto 102 will work great for this. Good Luck!

Candled mine last night and I think I have 6/7 good eggs. I left that extra one in the bator just in case my candling abilities aren't perfect! Can't wait to see that these eggs turn out to be since I have my LF Buff orpingtons and my OEGB chickens all in the same coop, and I have a BO rooster and OEGB roosters of several varieties, so who knows what these little guys will be

I though that 5 out of the 7 eggs were good but when I candled one of the bad ones this morning I could finally see growth. This egg does have a pretty thick and dark shell. From what I could see the mass inside seems to be just as big as the other good eggs. I have another bad egg that I can see something in, but it's very porous and the mass inside seems too small. So now I know at this stage I have 6 good eggs and one possible

Hows everyone else doing.
