Setting my eggs tonight (April 10) Any tips?

We put in regular linoleum and rolled it up the walls and it is working great so far. We bought some from an improper install so they sold it to us cheap (they installed the wrong color and had to remove it). Enjoy building your new coop!

I got linoleum in our brooders, works great. IDK about it in a coop, I use metal shovels in there.

I candled last night and got rid of a blood ring and a clear. locking down Monday afternoon with 10 eggs in 'bator and 2 under silkie

Hello, everyone!

Going to start construction on the coop tomorrow- putting in new nesting boxes.
Any ideas?

Eggs are doing fine- nine days till hatch date.

When I candled last, I could see veins and dark stuff in two eggs, the rest I can't see very well.... Just a dark glob.

Going to try candling again on Saturday.

Hi folks!

Recandled GL cochin eggs last night and all 10 appear ok. Lockdown the 27th. Hatch 5/1

Not so good for the ameraucanas. Of 16 egg... 3 good, 5 doubtful, 8 clear. Cracked open the clear... they looked ok, but not even a blood ring.

Eastin I would just look at other coop plans and make one to fit your needs. My problem is I keep expanding my plans.

Just candled my eggs, and I'm getting kinda nervous....

There was NO movement inside the eggs, and the black clouds didn't seem to be big enough for 14 day eggs.
There were air sacs, however...
Any thoughts?

Question: how would the chicks turn out if I crossed a Blue Orpington with a Barred rock? Orpington with a RIR?
I'm trying to get a hen who will go broody (not very often, though), lays good size brown eggs, and is cold hardy.

Im not sure about the barred rock/orpington cross, or RIR, but sounds like it's worth a try.

My rule of thumb is if they aren't seeping, or smell bad leave em in. I candled mine last night, and I had movement in all of them. My last hatch I never saw them move when I candled, but they were fine because they all hatched.

Lockdown is fast approaching...

Sending good vibes your way.

Thanks, BlueMoon. I will have to try that as soon as I get them all dusted for mites... I want that done before I add my latest batch of feedstore chicks in with them.

And- thanks for the advice. You made me feel much better.
