So, I just purchased 6 Ameraucana eggs and I am about to set them. I have my homemade styrofoam incubator regulating at 101 degrees F. Does anyone want to hatch along with me? Any tips along the way?

[I will be posting pics over the next 21 days.... and of the chicks if they hatch

hi, I'm 1 day ahead of you. I set yesterday at 3:30 pm. I also have a homemade 'bator. we made it out of an old cooler. check it out on my page. are your eggs at room temp? is this your first time? note that your temps will go a bite crazy for awhile while the eggs are warming up. ummmm do you have a fan? 101 is a bit high. 99.5 with a fan and 100.5 I believe w/o fan. My stupid thing goes between 97-102 and my last hatch (which are 1 week old today) was a great hatch in my book.

In my 'bator I have SILKIES!!!! from our own flock. The mamas are blue silkies one of which is a splash, the daddy's could be splash silkie, Easter Egger or brahma.

I have the eggs at room temp and I am planning on setting them in about a half hour.
I have read that 101 is a little high, but the woman I bought the eggs from insisted that it was the right temp. (She has been hatching for about 20 years, so I took her advice.)

Ohh, I LOVE silkies!!!!! I couldn't find any silkie eggs in my area, so I'm hoping to hatch some next year.

I'm setting a doz tonight from leghorns, red sexlinks. The rooster is a red/white cross but he is smallish and his sister lays small cream colored eggs, so not sure if the offspring will lay nice sized eggs or small ones. Hopefully big, as the lady we are going to give the chicks to sells her eggs. We'd keep them but we have just enough hens now for our house, we just want to hatch!

Now looking up the temps and humidity, can't remember them, lol!

Will be fun having someone hatch on the same day!

I JUST set my ameraucana eggs 10 min ago

. I am cheating though, I also ordered some chicks just in case not enough hatch for what I need. Besides, it gives me some diversity. If you do keep it at that temp yours will probably hatch before mine..... my homemade bator is set at 100.....

edited to fix spelling

Hi guys I set my cochin eggs at 2pm today in a hovabator 1588. This is my first hatch too! We're aiming for a 5/1/10 hatch right. I used to live in Michigan and had relatives in Caseville on the thumb. Good luck to all!!

Well, I guess I've started quite a hatch-a-long.

Update: Got up this morning and turned my eggs. My incubaor (Which I made out of a styrofoam cooler) seems to be keeping a regular temperature of 100.
HATCH DUE DATE: May 1st

I was thinking of ordering some chicks.... then I remembered I already have about 30 or so chickens that I have bought at feed stores every spring over the past 5 years.
