Well, if this is your first hatch then yes! You should feel guilty! You have to check the bator every 15 minutes to make sure everything is perfect.. :lol If you've done this before then it just means you know what to expect and aren't as frantic as the rest of us.. Nothing wrong with that...

Ok! Today is 1 week!! I decided I am going to candle twice.. Today and day 14! After that, I will leave them alone and hope for the best... This is what I started with..

12 Americana

9 Barred Rock x Production red

8 Delaware

6 Production red

1 Buckeye

I am so glad I put the door in the front this time instead of on top because humidity only went down 2% and Temp went from 100.4 to 99.5 so I only lost 9/10 of a degree and the temp range they stayed in was totally acceptable!!!! After candling all of them, here is where I am at..

11 Americana (lost 1.. I didn't notice it was cracked when I put it in and it never developed. and 1 was too dark to see)

9 Barred Rock x Production red (ALL LOOK GREAT!!)

7 Delaware (lost 1, looked scrambled when I got it but put it in anyway.. It never developed..)

4 Production red (Lost 2, both had blood rings..1 quit at day 3 and the other quit at day 5 or 6) and one with possible blood ring but put it back just in case)

1 Buckeye (still can't see anything but giving it another week)

So, 1 week into it and I still have 32 eggs left.. Not too bad!!

ETA: Oh.. And after I got done candling, I didn't realize how warm it was getting in the house.. I got up to check the bator like I always do and the temp was 103.2!!!!!

luckily it had only been about 30 minutes or so since I checked it so I quickly brought the temp back down!!! UGH!!

Oh no no no!! We can't have that.. You are officially banned from going anywhere that does not involve work for the remainder of your hatch.. You must check the bator at LEAST every 30 minutes if not 15 minutes!!! You must keep a log of every temp fluctuation, humidity change and if you THINK you see the eggs move on their own even if there is no physical possibility of them doing so!! You must also do every bit of research you can on the internet on how an chick develops and what it looks like on each day until they hatch! This includes watching every embryology video you can find!! Now, go check your bator!!!

Candled mine last night all 36 are looking great, am watching one that cracked my fault, my daughter thought it would be funny to sneek up and scare me (she's 5) and i dropped it, but i put a tissue and glue on it it looks ok for now i will recheck on day 14. But other than that as long as everything goes well, I should have a great hatch. And so far the 32 duck eggs in the bator look good too.

Which candler did you get? I am thinking about buying one also.

Dont think it had a brand went to this website http://www.pandtpoultry.co.uk/product/categoryid/95/productid/1219 as another company let me down - I was really pleased as ordered it yesterday afternoon at 4pm called them to make sure in stock - he said I had missed the post but they would post today and I would get Saturday but it arrived today by 12 I was really pleased.

Nothing really happening today at day 8.. I'm still trying ti figure out which day to go on lockdown since I set in the morning of March 25th.. I never got an answer if lockdown will be the 11th or 12th.. Oh well, I still have time to figure it out I guess.. I did go out and check to see how many eggs were in the coop.. One of my br girls were sitting but I reached under her and started laughing.. I found this with 2 egg from earlier...

Now, I know the picture makes it look like a normal egg, right?? Well, this is why I was giggling when I grabbed it!!

I have 7 girls and they've been laying since December.. I've gotten several double yolkers and a few soft shells (they always ended up on the droppings board

) But, this is the first time I've ever gotten a fart egg or even saw one in person.. I don't know which girl laid it but umm.... Is it really worth the effort??

I usually 'lockdown' the end of day 18 or first of day 19 (depends on when I remember) so for you I'd probably say evening of the 11th

Ok.. Thank you...

Now, I have a feeling mine will take their time hatching since the temps have dipped to between 96 and 98 a few times in the mornings... But I'm hoping it won't.. The temp normally only stays low for a few hours at most.. Most times it's between 99.5 and 100.8... We had to put the ac units in the windows yesterday because it's so hot here right now.. I would have fried the poor things or stand next to the bator and turn the light on and off every 5 minutes.. UGH!! Next time I will put a thermostat on it! lol

I'm having issues with the wigglers staying at 101.5 a lot in the afternoons since it's been hitting 90 this last week. Can't afford to turn the AC on yet! So I have ever fan on in the house and a fan blowing over the area the bators are in, it's helped a little.

Well part of the problem is they are at work and I am at home (spring break). I'm a teacher and they are safe in my classroom. I'll go check the humidity and temp today. My friend is one of the office staff so she has been checking up on them. I have been reading all of the info I can and yes I've watched several videos. Trying to decide which days to candle. I think I'll do a bit more research.
