I started candling. Most of the eggs are too dark or too dense to see a whole lot, but I do have growth in most of the ones I can see into. Those Marans are gorgeous but I can't see a darned thing in those chocolate covers

I am going to candle mine tonight, last night I sneaked one out and looked and if was growing good!! Can't wait to see the others I hope they all are good and made thier trip from VA to Texas!

Have been trying to candle mine. I know what I am suppose to look for, but don't know if I am seeing it

Half of mine are welsummer, which are very dark. So I feel your pain about the Maran ones! Those dark eggs are pain to candle

I've candled just a small handful of mine and there is only one that I am watching carefully.. It was the last of 4 Buckeye eggs that was sent to me.. Two of them were completely smashed in shipping and one was cracked.. The last one looked like the yolk was scrambled but it may have just been a shadow so I put it in.. I am keeping an eye out because if any explode, it will be that one.. The shell is pretty thick so I can't see anything very well but I *think* I saw veins starting.. So. I will wait til day 12 and look again unless it gets weepy or smelly before then...

Ok, I'm a bad egg mom - I set the eggs on Thur. temp is holding great and they are on an egg turner. Saturday I left them with a friend to watch over and I went camping in Yosemite with the family. Everything seems fine so far, but I feel guilty when I hear some of you checking every 15 min.

Hi all,

Got High Density candler in the post today so have managed to candle all eggs at day 7 23 out of the 24 all have veins so looking good. I also received my gimmick magnetic sexer (couldnt resist ordering to see if it works) but magnet sways back and forth on all 23 so all cockrels - I hope not!!!

A friend of mines bantums have gone broody too so she is not getting eggs so I gave her 5 more of my fertile eggs to hatch on Tuesday so they will be due to hatch 20th April if they do a good job - will be nice to compare differences between the natural hatch and the incubator hatch.

How are everyone else's doing?
