Them "fart" eggs are just too cute. I am going to start collecting them and make a necklace or something. Yes, I'd blow them out first.

This was one of mine.

I can definitely feel for you.. I didn't have a choice in putting the AC on.. If I didn't put them on, I may as well have made omelets because it's almost 90 today.. I have them on just enough to bring the temp in the house to about 75 and then kick on to fan to keep the air circulating.. I also have a fan that I adjust that blows on the fan.. If the bator gets too cool, i pull the fan back a bit and if it starts heating up, I put it closer or turn it up... My highest spike so far was only 103.2 and lowest was 95 something.. I caught the spike pretty fast (30 minutes) so I am not too worried about that but I am concerned with the temp drops in the mornings..

Ahh... ok.. You're excused then.. LOL.. How old are the kids you are teaching? i guess this is a project for them? Oh my goodness!! It would drive me absolutely bonkers if I had to stay away from my eggs for spring break!! LOL I went to the store this morning and I kept calling the house to see how they were! LOL

Ok, I went and checked on my eggs. Humidity and temp. look great. I candled 5 or 6 and 3 looked good. Not really sure how many I'll end up with since they are from the grocery store.

I'll candle next week and get a better count.

If you get one to hatch, you are doing better than a lot of people who have tried to hatch out store bought eggs.. Were they marked "fertilized"?

Ok.. Well, after reading the exploding egg thread posted tonight, I decided I DIDN'T want that to happen so the three eggs I wasn't sure about got candled.. The remaining buckeye didn't make it... I didn't see anything in it when i candled yesterday, no veins or anything but tonight there was a definite blood ring so, I guess it did start developing at one point or another.. Glad I caught it.. The one i THOUGHT I saw a blood ring in from my production red, had beautiful veins!!

... And the last one, a blue wheaton americauna that was too dark to see last night, well, it was still way too dark so i guess i will just hope and pray on that one.. Now that I figured out what was going on with the others i was concerned with, I will wait for day 14 to candle the rest!!

Of course they were marked fertilized - I'm new but not daft

Our Trader Joes sells fertile eggs for about $2.79 a dozen. Thought 3 dozen would be fun and low cost. We will see what happens.

Candled last night. In the cooler bator (silkies) I removed one and marked one questionable, he remaining questionables were fine and developing nicely. Leaves 24 in that one from 30 to start.
In the foam bator (mutts and silkies) I marked 3 questionable but removed none so we are still at 31.

Should be ready for lock down this week. Cooler should be Tuesday and foam should be Thursday.

I didn't know that they were TJ's eggs.. I know some people on here have tried to hatch out grocery store eggs that were marked "free range" but not marked "fertilized" and have been able to pull it off with a small percentage of them.. $2.79/dz definitely isn't bad compared to how much it cost to buy those same eggs from a hatchery... LOL Silly, isn't it?
