Setting Today (03-02-2012)

So i think my thermometer is old and not working correctly so i went to tractor supply and bought the only thermometer with a humidity reading on it, it was also the cheapest on they sold but it is reading 35% humidity. What should i be at in regards to humidity? My temp is a digital reader on the bator. Staying steady at 37.4c which is 99.6 or so

Hi, I set 25 today. 20 Silkie feathered Ameraucana and 5 lavender Ameraucana. Can I play too?

The lavender Ameraucana are the first I've set from my trio-they just started laying 3 days ago.

Hi!
I'm glad this is turning into a nice group of hatching buddies!

Are you guys "experienced" hatchers? Haha
This is only my second time. With a real incubator. So I'm super nervous!

Hi, can I join you? Here is my bator journal: started 3 weeks ago
I am going to try to do a continuous hatch in my little giant styro bator, . got it stabilized 2 days ago, put the eggs in but now it has gone whacky on me. wont stay at 99.5. always a degree high or low (where I leave it when I am out of the room, low, so I don't cook them. ) do these thermostats just wear out? then I am going to try to rig up a hatching incubator so I can keep putting in every egg she lays as I get them.

putting a couple sweaters over it really helped.
I put in the 7th egg today . At this rate, with 41 spaces I will have the incubator full in 60 days, of course most of them will have hatched by then, I hope. Funny how little it takes to entertain me.

TODAY:
the first batch of eggs were clear - no development. I did have a temperature spike (3 degrees) at the beginning but I am guessing it may have more to do with the hen being in a below freezing house and me not getting to the egg right as she lays it. still 2 in the bator, 2 waiting in the wings and she's laying well now. And I am starting to put together my new hatching incubator with flexwatt heating element.

I set mine the night of March 1st I have have 15 eggs, 3 are bantams and the rest are a grab bag of pure bred white egg layers. I'm also trying a split hatch for 3rd annual Easter hatch.

I too had a temperature spike on the 1st day.

. It spiked up to 110 degrees. I'm not sure how long it was at that temperature, but I got it back down quickly by opening the incubator. I hope it doesn't hurt the eggs.

It is stable at 100 now... I keep checking the temp every morning.. This morning i checked it 2x just to make sure.. 100 at each check. I have a journal as well. I just keep track of the temp, and jot down if anything goes arye... also jot down when i candle which the first time is going to be either day 5 or Day 7... I know many people candle every day, but if your a newbie and not very sure what you are looking at....what day would you say is the best day to see some growth?
