Setting today who's with me?!?

I have been enjoying myself and learning---keeping up on all the hatches to come. I was trying really hard to not candle till day 10, because they were shipped and scrambled. Couldn't wait and at day 6, had some viable eggs. About 5 had veins and a few with the black eye. That is out of 15 eggs total (one broken on arrival). One is so dark tan I can't tell and one is so very porous. Keeping my fingers crossed. I was advised to cull at day 10. Due date is May 16th @ 0900

Good luck everyone. Lynn Marie

I hope so. They will feel warmer than your body temp. Maybe that just feels hot to the touch for you? You have a thermometer in there, so it is probably fine

I have my bator running 88-90 during the day and they feel the normal temp now when I go to turn them so maybe it's just getting to hot in there?

I'm glad to hear that! Good luck with your eggs. I've been having a few problems with mine lately too.

Alright here's an update ya'll. I just put two more eggs in my bator so that totals it up to 15. If none of them hatch out I've decided i'm going to go buy me a Little Giant bator .

Shouldn't the temp inside be more like 99.5? Do you have a thermometer in there? Maybe 2 thermometers...sometimes those digital ones can be way off. Not sure how to calibrate them though, but I'll bet there is a thread here about it somewhere!!

Started with 15 eggs from my EE girls in the bator on April 23, candled today and culled two. One had a ring of death and the other was not fertile... down to 13 and excited for my hatch day of May 14!!!

What incubator are you using right now? Is it one you have built? My husband built a really great one...If you weren't so far away we could just give or loan you ours

A double yolker

...can't wait to see how that one turns out. That's great! Can one have too many chicks? Wait, no, don't answer that

Well, I candled tonight and the double yoker had a blood ring...so I tossed it out. I was hoping to get twins...but I suppose it is not meant to be this go round.

Tonight was day 8 for my 59 eggs. I candled them all and found that I had 6 blood rings and 10 that weren't fertile. That being said, I now have 43 in the incubator that are developing well. Last year I had about a 95% hatch rate for the ones that I could tell were developing by day 10 (not including ones that I tossed due to blood rings). I expect to see about 40 chicks hatch in 13 days!

As far as my broody hens, I haven't built a box to separate the broody hens...so they have been just in the coop and they keep forgetting which nest they are supposed to be sitting. As a result, I am not too confident in them.

I did put 13 more Delaware eggs in the incubator tonight.
