Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

My silkies are from Garry farms. They have fantastic feedback on BYC, and were terrific to work with! I want to try Catdance next as her silkies are outstanding, she is closer to me, and she has great feedback as well! I am anxious to see how your hatch goes!

I hatched my last barnyard mix in egg cartons with good success and planned to do that with these little guys. I just liked the fact that they stayed in place rather than having the first ones that hatch kick them all over the incubator!

How can you see the position of the chicks at the end? I had one last hatch pip the wrong end of the egg - I caught it in time, flipped the egg over in the carton and it hatched out fine!

Air cells look good! I hand turn, so check them from time to time. I have one saddle cell, and a couple I think have quit, but am leaving until I am positive on day 18 (unless I start to smell something!) the rest are seem to be developing normally. I love having eggs I can see so easily into - last batch were my brown, green, and olive eggs that took a bit more light and very dark conditions to maybe see something!

Humidity is staying right between 40-45% with drops to 35% when I need to add water.

your pip position should tell you what end the chick is in..sometimes those guys do get turned upside down. I think if they have higher humidity they turn earlier and set for hatch before day 18 and you confuse them with still egg turning and they go upside down in the confusion.

Morning fellow bator buddies! It's Day 12 and humidity is 53% this morning. One day closer to lockdown....excitment is building!

I have all but 6 of my eggs ( Lavender Orp) that will lock down on Feb 5th. The Lavender Orp eggs came a day later, so they will hatch about 1-2 days later. Is it ok to put them in lockdown with the other eggs a little early?

fisherman's wife - can't wait to see pics of those silkie babies...they are so cute!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all

Hatch time is getting closer..the broody is cooking in the barn all nice and tight, the bator is doing well and holding good temps. My humidity in the house is at 50% and in the bator it is holding at 30%. I will not add water unless it drops under 20%, my air cells are doing wonderful and shrinking. I should have a good 18-20 hatch I am hoping. A few more days till I am sure. I think I still have three clear in the bator. The Marans eggs are so hard to tell.

I am still hoping for ....
10 silkies
3 Marans
5 Orpingtons
1 Speckled Sussex

Can you please show pictures of your silkies?! I made a thread looking for pics from BYCer's of their Silkies from BARGAIN "Garry Farms" and no one has replied. I would love to see what the chickies look like all grown up! :) Or are you just saying your have eggs from her?

If you go on the silkie thread you will see many many chicks out of catdance eggs. I just have the first silkies I have ever owned in the bator from her now.

You check correct placement of a chick in an egg at day 18 when you candle. If it is too dark, you need to wait till the pip. The pip is an upside down V.

You can tell on this pip the chick is in the correct placement.

I am on day 4 here. Of the 14 millie fluer eggs, 12 have veining 2 appear to be clear.
I put in 3 barnyard surprises and 2 of them appear to be clear. I will give them a few
more days just to be sure.
We had bad storms here in Tn last night. The power went out after the storm passed.
Temp went down to 86.We covered the incubator with a blanket. The power was out for
about an hour. All is well now.

Good luck with your hatch. Keep us posted. Glad everything is ok there after those terrible storms. They looked real bad on the news.
