Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

So my only little slw chick that hatched yesterday morning is standing with it's eyes half closed.  It seems weak and i can't get it to drink on its own.  I'm getting some electrolyte water in it with a dropper.  I have seen it peck at some chick starter.  Last night it was running around fine with it's eyes fully open.  Any suggestions guys....

Not an expert here at all, but maybe try some sugar in the water? I've read it helps. Maybe some plain yogurt, that would give it good probiotics as well as moisture. Good luck. I'm sure someone with more experience than me will chime in.:)

Poly-vi-sol without iron is great to give them a boost the first day or two. just a few drops in a pint of water and maybe a bit of sugar not much. it will give them upset tummy.

Good morning - well, we lost power this mornin at 5 an it just came back on about half hour ago. I really have no expectations at this point as my temps were very variable with me trying to keep them hot enough. Kind of like a roller coaster. Have not given up entirely, just not overly optimistic. Waaaaah. I will regroup and definitely must have a back up power source. Lesson learned.
Glad you're getting some action mimills! Here's to many flluffy babies!

Melinda - I'm so sorry to hear about your power loss. You still might have a chance though. Temp drops when a hen leaves the nest. What did the bator temp drop to?

Sometimes it takes a full 24-48 hours before they peck at starter food. Mine just started eating starter this morning. Try the great suggestions Melinda and Gloria Jean gave....good luck!

I have one late hatcher pipping right now...a Lavender Orp! That should be the last one for a total of 27 hatched once that one is out. Maybe I will be able to get a full night sleep tonight and not wake up every couple of hours checking for pipping and zipping.....LOL! My new addiction is brooder watching now....all those cute little fuzzy butt!! It's madness!

Hey fellow hatchers!

I'm on day 14, temp steady humidity around 50%. I ordered some shipped eggs and the hatchery sent them much earlier than I expected (I chose to receive them after this batch is done in a week and a half. Out if curiosity, I candled a couple of the new eggs to look for cracks and there were veins! I'm kinda bummed because I don't know if that's a good thing, but I think it's bad if they started to grow and then were shipped!
Has anyone else had an issue with this?

Hope everyone's eggs are staying steady and lots of activity when candled!!

Oh geez, my pic didn't upload! I'll try again. I am expecting BO's, EE's, Barred Rocks, and Black Sex link mixed with a Brahma rooster. Quite a mix, huh! Had one hatch at 10 this morning, will it bother the others while they try to hatch? It's running around knocking all the other eggs into each other. Hoping for more tonight!

Sooooo cute! Any others pipping? They do thrash around alot when they first hatch and then settle down. I usually wait til they are dry before quickly removing them from the bator and into the brooder. That's what I did this hatch but everyone does it a litle different.
