Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

I candled my Catdance eggs late last night...it is day 13 and I was going to do it tonight, but started to look at a couple last night and before you know it I had them all done and checked off on my record keeping card!   Out of the 18 eggs (original sent was 24) I had only 1 that was questionable!  Some have kidney shaped aircells, but they were definitely active!  I am pleased to have so many still doing so well!   Lockdown in Sunday for me!

Ok, I am freaking out.... I went downstairs and my incubator was making a horrible noise (forced air fan) and the temp was 104. It wasn't there very long as I had turned the eggs a couple of hours before and everything was fine. I shut it off, cooled it down, and oiled the fan, tightened screws, etc. It seems to be fluctuating between 99and 102. I am so frustrated! I have not had one problem with it for 4 hatches! It is a odd brand - but has worked great. I don't know if I should go buy another incubator "in case". The only thing you can get around here is an LG - and they have terrible reviews. Maybe I should just buy one for backup - and see if they will take it back if I don't use it. ...

AAARRRGGGHHH! I just don't want to lose my Catdance babies!

Man that sucks..I would just turn the turner on a few times a day while you stand there.

I don't have a turner - it is the heat/fan making the noise - and It isn't regulating the heat correctly. I have 3 thermometers in there - and each one reads differently, so that isn't helping! I did run to town and by an LG in case....they said I could bring it back....so bummed. I think I will have to stay awake for 7 days!!

Do you have an old fashioned mercury thermometer? They are supposedly very accurate. That's what I switched to after my first hatch. Best of luck getting it figured out. Keeping fingers crossed...

You need to calibrate one thermometer and use one. Having so many will only make it more stressful.

Well, I am going to look for a mercury thermometer tonight - I think they are hard to find ? My husband looked at everything, retightened some stuff, and we turned it off for 1/2 hour but kept it all together so the eggs would not cool off too much. I figured it is not much different than when the hen leaves her eggs to eat and dust bathe! I then fired it back up and it is much quieter but still running hot. I turned it down as far as I could and it is staying steady at 100/102 depending on which thermometer you look at! I can live with that. I am either moving it next to my bed or getting up during the night to check on it.

If it was my own hen's eggs - no biggie - but these are CATDANCE eggs! What I need is one of my big fat hens to go broody!! hahaha!

You won't be able to buy one in a store but chances are that your grandma or mom has one. I had one until I broke it. I lucked out when a friend had an extra and shared with me. They have been banned in many states because of the mercury but a lot of people still have them lying in the medicine cabinet.
