Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

We have a second zipping right now gonna try to video it too as my daughter is in bed. Ended up having to take the other chick out it would not stop bashing the other eggs around it was being VERY rough. But gave it a little stuffed fuzzy monkey friend and its curled up doing fine. Will post more pics as we get them. Thanks all for caring.

And chick 3 and 4 and my daughter got to see 3 & 4 hatch. However 2 and 3 seem to have distended bellys and don't seem to have absorbed all their yolk as they had a glob attached to them that they pulled off as they flopped around. One of them even looks a little puffy and sore like where it was attached. Hope they will be ok. Have fingers crossed for the other 4 eggs. Today is day 21 and 3 of them hatched after midnight so were born on their hatch day YAY!!

Well I bought the spot check thermometer before setting this batch of eggs. For 3 days my temp held steady at 100.5 degrees. I put the eggs in yesterday and it dropped for a bit then came back up. I started turning it off when I wasn't checking the temp and starting last night it would be all over the place. I would turn it on and it would say 99.5 then 3 seconds later would jump to 102.1 then down then up. I left it on for a while thinking maybe it was just a glitch. This morning it was at 99 again and seemed to hold steady there but I'm not sure what is going on. Since these eggs got lost in the mail for a day longer than it should have taken them I didn't have high hopes for them anyway. I guess we will see.

I did set 6 of my own eggs in there as a control group. My luck my eggs will hatch and the specialty eggs I ordered won't.

Good luck on your chicks...that sometimes happens with high humidity. They should be fine as long as it is not mushy chick syndrome.

A little flucuation should be fine. As long as it does not stay above 102 or below 97 for to long.

They seem to be doing a little better all but 1 that looks like it may have a funky foot or it is still just weak and tired and doesn't have it's legs good yet. Humidity has been holding between 65 and 70 per reccpmendation of another local hatcher but maybe that is still too high for us. We shall see. The ones that didn't seem to absorb all of their yolk were rather big chicks too for the size of their egg I thought so I am just glad they manage to get out ok. Have another pip so just 3 more after that one and one is awfully wiggly but has a misplaced air cell so hopefully it does ok as well. Hatching is so nerve racking I forgot how much so till I started doing it again.

I would be terrified to hatch with that high of humidity.

That is just what it has been since day 18 was 50 to 55 days 1-18 candled and kept track of air cells and all seem to be right size. Only two of the so far hatched chicks had a yolk problem wouldn't it be all of them if humidity was an issue?

Oh ok well thanks for the info. I was just going with what little bit I remember from when I was young and what was recommended to me from someone local. Next time I will try keeping the humidity down is 70 still too high for last 3 days?
