Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

Hey delisha -

After messing with my temp/hygrometer, I got a bit flustered and was digging around for the small instructions that came with it. I thought it may give me a clue right? Well I feel dumb. The MAX temp it will display is 98.8, and since it was displaying 98.5 before, it must be spot on with the mini....so if the temp is spot on, the humidity must be fine as well.....DUH

I just checked it again, and it's reading 98.6 and 50% humidity

Well we ended up with 6 chicks hatched, one that has done nothing so far not sure it will but will give it a day or two, and one little one that pipped the wrong end of the shell which caused a bleed that dried and closed up its air hole it pipped I opened it back up by just using warm water and a q-tip but it was too late we lost it. Upon opening it up I also noticed that it had not yet absorbed everything and when it bled there was A LOT of blood inside the egg. Daughter is happy with what we got and for our first ever shipped eggs not too bad!

Congrats on the 6 babies! I think that's great for your first shipped eggs. Can't wait to see the pic of the fuzzy butts!

Morning All! How's everyone's eggs doing?

I've been looking at some eggs on ebay. I'm thinking of getting some button quail eggs (so darn cute and they are mini quail) and more ameraucana eggs, possibly some chocolate orp eggs too...all so tempting...We'll see!

Awesome! With our addictions... err...I mean passion for chicken raising, this could be a lifelong thread! Love it! Do people raise quail for food and eggs? We have a lot of wild quail in our area, and they are so delightful to see. Especially in spring when the babies are lined up behind mom!

I think so....lol! Someone is always hatching eggs.... could go on forever. So... I bid on some eggs...YAY! Hope I win.

Quails can be used for food depending on the breed and the eggs can be eaten or used in recipes. Quail eggs are considered a delicacy in some countries. I like Button Quail for fun...wouldn't want to eat them...too pretty and cute! The baby quail chicks are the size of a quarter or 50 cent piece....with legs! LOL! You would love them and they don't take up much room.

OH!!!!!! HOW!!!! YOU ALL!!! ARE!! tempting me; Hummm Quail; My brother says the larger quail are all white meat; The Texas white are larger and more meaty; What do you think out there?;Not much room either , that sounds even better.
I love the sound of the native Bobwhites in the woods at night. It makes me very nostalgic That and the whippor-wills; Sigh, the feral cats have killed them all ,I think around here now. I love kittys but they really should be kept inside as pets.
