Setting up the bator and setting shipped eggs this week....anyone else wanna join?

Oh how GREAT!!! Congrats!! So glad you got to see it happen!
I want a friend like yours!!! I finally listed my extras on Craigs list for free with the hopes they would act like they were going to be pets and not stew pots (although I am a realist and have 4 in my freezer right now)...and lo and behold, I got rid of 3 to people who wanted them for their flock! My phone started ringing at 6:45! Crazy people! I have 2 more pre-crowing juveniles to rehome...

I hear ya....every time I put an ad on craiglist, people start calling within 10 mins....amazing how many people always are on the hunt for chickens and if you put FREE...they come running..LOL!! I had put an ad on craiglist to get rid of my roos and this guy, Bryan, called me and continues to take any I have. He raises them and sells them at livestock auctions or to people wanting roos. He also raises hatchery pullets and sells them so he is bringing me two pullets today and taking the last of the roos. I wish I could keep a roo but don't really need one plus being in a neighborhood...don't want to rock the boat. No one minds the girls. We just like the fresh eggs and the fun of keeping chickens. I will incubate for fun but not all the time as it can be time consuming....as you can attest! LOL!

How are those 8 babies doing?

Melinda, any more hatchlings overnight?

Oh I was just teasing....they were great pictures really....very jealous here in Colorado. We go from freezing our tail feathers off to being so hot you want to stand in the freezer....no happy mediums anymore!
I've noticed the eggs have tilted up just a bit (large end) so I'm taking that as a good sign. Hard to hear when anything may happen as the heater motor cycles a constant hum.....but I'll still be trying anyway. Humidity is holding at 65%. Temp is between 99.6 - 99.8.

Your humidity and temps are good. You should see a PIP or two maybe later today or by tomorrow for sure...can't wait to hear the news!

It seems everyone is going to have some baby's this week. I think mine should start Friday, and go all the way into Monday. Staggered hatch and two weeks later, another hatch.

Wow, if I had someone consistently take my roos I would become a hatching maniac

.....good thing he doesn't live close to me! I do love having a roo - I have a great one! I would never put up with a mean one!! I also have neighbors (many who keep chickens) that love the sound of the rooster , so I am blessed with that. I saw a thread on here where a poor husband was asking for advice because his wife was mad at him for killing their rooster that just attacked their 4 year old daughter! I was floored at her response!

Babies are doing well! A bit of pasty butt here and there, which I haven't dealt with before. I started blending in the fermented food this morning, and that should help clear it up. My little chick (we are calling it Forrest Gump) with the leg issue seems to be doing great. I vet wrapped it for a couple of days, and used a shortened rubber band for a shackle (or whatever you call that thing), and now he is just using the band, and getting along great. I think I will remove it tomorrow to see how he does!

Chook Chick - You are doing great! WE are wishing you pips soon! Then sit on your hands - 'cause that is the worst ... especially when they decide to take a 12 hour nap before they do anything!

Then, as soon as you decide nothing is going to happen and it is hopeless, and walk away, they pop out!!

Vicki, you are the hatching juggernaut. I love it. I would have loved to have a couple of your BLRW pullets if you lived closer. How many do you have going to lockdown this time? Good luck and always look forward to going through PIP watch and unzipping with you and everyone.....it's like we all feel the experience together! LOL!

How cute....Forrest Gump! Hope the little guy's leg straightens up. Maybe my roo guy will allow you to ship...LOL! He was here earlier and took my last roo....whew! He brought me a SLW and an Ameraucana pullet. They are from McMurray he said. So pretty. They are going through pecking order right now...lol! It's so funny even at 7 weeks old, chicks do that but it's mild compared to adults.

Our neighborhood is not deed restricted and right outside the neighborhood, down the street, we see farms and cow pastures!

So thrilled! four Wyandottes out and fluffy, my own RIR out and fluffed, three more pipped, three with nothing happening. One has pipped on wrong end. Should I be doing anything differently? Will search the threads... I am ecstatic with this hatch. Got to watch 4 hatch out thus far. Actually skyped my mom while #2&3 were hatching so she could watch from Florida! She had never seen them hathcing either, so fun to share the experience with her! Better checks my pips to see of there's any progress. And search thread for wrong end pipping. Woohoo!!!

As long as the wrong end has air it will be fine. If it does not, you need to open that pip so it can breath. After you have the hole a tiny bit larger, it will be just fine.

That's great Melinda!! Sounds like a great hatch so far. The egg that pipped on the wrong end could hatch successfully on it's own given time but if you need to help it, here's a BYC link I have used before packed with good info.
