Seven and a half week old EE's.. Roo or hen?

Here are a few more pics. The guy on the left in the back is definitely a cockerel, he is crowing. The SLW in the front I thought was a cockerel, but when I took all four of mine to a local guy he said this one was the only one that was a pullet. There are no saddle or hackle feathers although she is awfully red in the comb and waddles.

Close up of my tan guy.

Another pic of the SLW.. pullet? The one in the back im pretty sure is an EE pullet.

I have ten BO's that were hatched on Christmas day. I'm pretty sure I have two, possibly three cockerels out of the ten. I'm seeing one roo in this group..

One cockerel and one pullet?

Possible cockerel on the left?

Definitely a cockerel. See the dark red coming in on his shoulders? Plus his comb is very red for a pullet at that age.

I'm 60-40 on this one, leaning closer to cockerel. Could you get a full side view? The EE in the back appears to be a pullet, yes. She'll be gorgeous. :)

Yup, the one standing in the back is a cockerel.

One cockerel and one pullet?

Absolutely.

Mmm..... Not sure about the one on the left. The one farthest to the right is a cockerel (probably the same one as in the first pic of BOs?).

Here are four more pics with the full side view. The last one is of her butt going into the coop.

I have two other SLW's that a local breeder told me were cockerels. One has a single comb.

And the one with the single comb:

100% sure tan chick is a cockerel. That dark red blotching on the back/upper wing doesn't happen on pullets. He's going to be a looker! My EE cockerel was also very laid back and slight of build. A pullet ruled the brooder and didn't give up the top spot until after he was crowing and working on mating. He's still mellow and would likely be a beta roo if there was any competition at all.

I agree completely Debid. Tan or red doesn't automatically equal boy, but dark red uneven blotches on the wings sure does! EE's are really hard to talk about because they're such a mixed bag. There are general rules to follow, but they arn't true 100% of the time because the slurry of genetics that go into these birds.

And all due respect, but I have to disagree with the earlier statement that EE's all have hackles. Those are purely male feathers across all breeds of chickens. The only slight exception to the rule is certain breeds have males with female feathers, but never the other way around.

They are both boys. The EEs tail looks boyish, in one of the pics I could see it the pea comb has three rows and the burnt red color on the shoulder blades. I would love to see pics of him when he is a little bigger. Will you post on the sexing thread for EEs so we can follow his changes in the way he looks. What is your a cross with Ameraucana and what? I love EEs. :0)

There is no doubt that Shannon, my tan guy, is indeed a guy. He started crowing this AM and boy was he proud of himself!

I don't know what he is a crossed with, when I got them I was told they were Ameracauna. I said "do you mean they are Easter Eggers?" and he said yes. I don't think he knows the difference between Ameracauna and EE. I got them from a local guy that hatches out about 100 at a time. Not a breeder by any stretch, but a local backyard chicken guy.

I just posted pics of Shannon on the EE thread.
