This turkey is only being treated homeopathic style. She has survived since Oct 29th, so about 2 weeks. Owner tjought she was goung to die but said if I wanted to try and nurse her back to health I could try. So I have.
Can so.eine tell me at what point do I allow her back out with the flock. Keep in mind they tried to kill her and she had a severely pecked out back along with the break.

No one expected her to live. Yet here she still is.
I am seeking some advice and ballpark answers. if anyone can help me with them tjat would be awesome.
How long might it take for her leg to heal?
Will her feathers grow back or is she destined to have a featherless back?
She is probably three or four months old and never been handled until I brought her in the house to clean and mend her.
Do you think she will be ok when returned to the outside? Ok with the other turkeys,ok in the cold and ok going back to the barnyard bugs and simple grains she was eating prior to me bringing her in and feeding her well?
Thank you.
I have attached some pucs of her original injuries and some of her healing so far.

I would wait until at least the peck marks on her back are healed. Personally, I'd want to give that leg as much time as possible to heal. There is a chance that once she goes back with her flock, you won't be able to catch her to doctor her again. So make sure everything is thoroughly healed the first time.

I agree

You might want to try her in a chicken sling where she is suspended and she will be off the leg until it heals. Broken bones can take several weeks to form a hard callus or thickening in the juncture of the bones. I know very little about turkeys or splinting broken bones, but here is a good link on splinting bones, a diagram of bones, and information on how long it can take to heal:

Here is a good link on pictures of homemade slings and chairs:

For a compound fracture like that, I wouldn't even consider turning her loose until it's healed for at least 8 weeks. The longer the better, really.
Thats how I feel also.
Its not my bird. Its the landlords bird technically. They had no interest in spending money to fix her, which I fully understand. I live on a ranch but technically the lease states no birds... I saved a chick from this year's hatchlings. She is now nearly 3 months old.
So I have to be candid with the turkey. The husband of the rancher is tje bird guy here.
He told me that I can try nursing her back to health. So they know I am caring for her. I just get a bit paranoid and worry sometimes that out of the blue thwy are going to come down on me and tell me she needs to go back out on the ranch.
It would help if their house wasnt basically onthe other side of our backyard fence on a hill. So they can see in to the yard e ery day lol.
We have a fairly good relationship though. So Im just going to pray for grace ans good healing :)
