Sex-link with Coryza (update) - how long for Tylan to work?

Just thought I'd post the outcome for the sake of others:

We gave her 1cc of Tylan-50 sub-cutaneously in the breast each morning for a week and a half. We also did the 6:1 Tylan-50 and water nasal flush, and we gave her ~40-50 cc's of water with tetracycline orally each day. We were giving her water anyways so she didn't get totally dehydrated, and we were trying anything to see any improvement. We also used some of the diluted Tylan-50 to flush out her bad eye.

She was inside our laundry room the whole time, not *warm*, but way warmer than outside. She would eat scratch periodically, but never layer pellets. She would eat scrambled eggs chopped up in yogurt but only one a day - overall not much, and I can't imagine that helped her.

At any rate, after a week and a half, the only improvement we had seen was that she no longer had the rales (gurgly breathing), and that happened the third day. Her sinus was still just as swollen and weepy, and her eye was still swollen shut. Meanwhile, the other three hens had zero symptoms. So, my boyfriend cut her head off. Sigh. I feel badly about it, but I couldn't have handled them all getting sick like that.

Sorry for your loss, you did the best you could. - I am battling coryza myself and it is frustrating.

Although my little girl is very ambitious to eat and gets a good star for being a good patient - makes it a little easier.

It almost sounds like you were drowning her body in antibiotics - and that might have been why you weren't seeing an improvement. Although it does seem like it's 2 steps forward and one step back on a daily basis. x(

They need about 300ml of water a day for a hen, 400 for a rooster. you have to give it hourly in 6 x 5ml squirts.
Get lots of variety of food in. i had to hand feed mine shoving it in but he gobbled it down. Give protein. Meat, fish. and tonic foods full of vit C like tomato, grapes, bread and honey, cheese pieces. Water mixed with organic molasses. One 5ml squirt of colloidal silver down the throat. 3 times a day. wipe all the gunk away. Spritz the eyes with water and help open them gently by rubbing with saliva to soften the crud then peel it off like a scab. I also used eye drops i had left over from my dog.
A lot of work but he's recovered after around 10 days. i was unable to get any anti biotics so had to use the colloidal silver. Vets in Australia care zero for animals dying and only care at all about getting a consultation fee so being a pensioner i had to do it the hard way because i couldn't afford $100 to take in a dying chicken when i know very well the cause and cure. the veterinary INDUSTRY should have a good long hard look at itself. i have zero respect for vets. ZERO.
