Ok, I did a little photo shoot today, not a great one, but when you have fluffy chicks that won't sit still, you do what you can, lol. Here are some of the babies:
Silkie/Bantam Cochin chick. Clementine:
Bantam Cochin, not positive on color, but we adore the colors and plan to keep it. Silverado:
And here is, I believe, one black Cochin, and one Barred Cochin. For anyone that knows my Petunia, the chick on the right is her baby. Pooty (Petunia's nickname) is the sweetest bird EVER, and we're hoping her chick inherits her temperment:
Do Black Mottled chicks come in Mottled, or Black at first, because the chick on the left has black wings with white along the outer edges, but no mottling. Granted it's only a week old, but my Mottled pair I got as 4 month olds, so I don't know how they feather in as chicks. Here is a list of the Cochins I have:
Barred
Blue Splash
Black Frizzle hen
White (one is Frizzle)
Mottled
And here are my questions...
What do you get if you cross a White Cochin with a Black Mottled? Anything interesting? How about White over Barred or Blue Splash? And what do you need to do to get Buff Cuckoo? I think that color is gorgeous. I'm assuming I need Buff or Brown Reds? They're on my list. Right now I'm working toward Blue Mottled. Thanks for any ideas you all share.
