Sexing 5 week old chicks

yes i think sapphire gems are sex linked and she never had a white spot on her head. I think we get them from Hoovers hatchery and I heard they can mess up on that, but I'm am getting more faith that she is a hen. Do you mean the red on the EE?

Whoops, I meant rest, but my phone changed it! EE’s are tough. I bought a two sexed pullets, one turned out to be a boy, but I didn’t know until 3.5 months in.

Your Midnight Majesty Maran is definitely a pullet! Pullets are solid black and the roosters are barred with other colors. I just got my first Midnight Majesty Maran three weeks ago. I am excited for the cinnamon colored eggs!

8 week update!

No crowing yet, still confused though

(in order of most roo-like IMO)

EE: “her” tail and rust coloration on her wings is an obvious roo sign but she doesn’t seem to be at the top of the pecking order and has the smallest, and least red comb out of everybody.

Sapphire Gem: almost definitely top chicken. She is the biggest (not by a lot) and has thick legs and if there is every commotion she runs over to shut it down, but she looks very hen like.

SLW: acts very hen-like and friendly, comb is slowly getting pinkish

her comb is pretty big, though she doesn't have saddle or pointed hackle feathers. probably a hen
