I've never tried to vent sex my quail past or before 6-7 weeks old, but it was a pretty basic operation at the time. I didn't know it was dangerous to them.

Quail aren't quite the same as chicks. Chicks you really squeeze. If you're not paying attention, it's super easy to hurt them.

I don't think that's a very accurate method, one of my hens has a very fluffy butt, but at the same time, one of my roos does too.

You cannot vent sex an older bird. It's also not "super easy" unless someone is a trained professional. Most here seeking advice are not.

Do not vent sex. It's not worth injuring your bird to try and get a jump on gender. Be patient and wait 6-8 weeks.

You can vent sex older quail. You don't have to press hard at all. A quick flip, light push and either there's foam or there's not.
