Ok. Thank you all. Just our luck

We did buy from someone who was NPIP certified. We looked forward to this for the past 7month.

It is a continual learning process with fowl. Next time just make sure the chicks are well defined with sex indicators. Give yourself time to learn what the indicators are. And just in case you have heard only Males have white spots on the heads that is not true. Females can have them too. They are located through almost entirely inside the dark V marking.

NPIP certification means nothing, in terms of quality of stock. It just means that the breeder has passed certain requirements that allow them to ship eggs across state lines.

It actually goes beyond that. I am NPIP and proud to be. You are right it has nothing to do with breed purity or SOP's. It is a disease eradication and prevention program.

One of the side benefits is selling at public sales and across state lines. You can sell a mutt or the worst looking bird of a breed in the world. but it would be a healthy ugly mutt.

We got them when they were about 4 weeks old and by that time you could clearly tell them apart. Here they were the day we got them.

ahh.. the advantage and disadvantage of buying them at that age. You do not risk losing them during the first couple weeks when they are most vulnerable, but you miss out on seeing what autosexing details they display.. Bummer. .
