Sexing eggs!

I have a friend who raises show pidgeons. I have a feeling that he'd laugh me out of the county!!!

I'm a sceptic! But here goes! I think it would be fun to give it a try.
I have got several broody hens ready so today when I collected the eggs, (90 in total) I had a good chance to select what I thought were rounded eggs. I must have spent about 30 lining them all up and selecting them. If I can they will go under a broody soon and we will see what happens. With leghorns you do not have to wait long to find out the sex. The males develop a good size comb in relation to the pullets early on.

I have pigeons so I could test it with their eggs, I really need another male pigeon soon so I could let them incubate a pointy egg and see what hatches. But I have 15 pigeons now so can't let them hatch any more than one until next year when I expand my coop.

Oh and most of the time there is a male and female that hatch, but one time I had both the eggs end up as females so isn't fully accurate.

I did read that a hen will often release a female ova, followed the next day by a male ova. The more one studies science, the more incredible and awesome the little details become.

Nice looking eggs, GWC. I LOVE incubating white eggs. They are SO much fun to candle. Be sure to post your results, be they in support or negating the theory.

That's not a ratio I would complain about. It's better than 50/50.

I definitely will LG. I tend to have less success with broodies than I do in the incubator. It sounds strange I know but rarely do I get a hatch above 90%.
Anyway I will let you know. There are a further 4 broodies on eggs in addition so they can act as a test lot.
