Sexing my Barred Rock chick

What about saddle feathers or is he/she still to young?Barred Rock Mix??? almost 5 weeks

this is a pullet...saddles wont be visiable for a while i have some 11-12 week olds and the only way to see the saddles is to part the feathers on them and theirs are just now starting to come in at about 15 weeks you should be able to see the pointy saddles on a cockerel coming in

I repeat this is a barred rock MIX!!!!!

I have know Idea what it is mixed with and no way to find out!!!!!


The black one in the middle is the one in question!!!! and it is younger then the other chicken standing around it!!!!! So I can't compare!

She/he is 2 months old now and has some green iridescent coloring on the wing feathers.I'm really thinking it's a rooster but hoping it's not!!!!

I am going to say pullets! . But I have 3 barred rock chicks, and all of them are pullets also. One looks almost EXACTLY like yours! Have fun with your little chicky! I love barred rocks, and they are a good breed.

But if it's a mix, I'm not entirely sure.

Going with roo.. The legs are very thick.. the comb is really red as well..

It is definitely a mix. I had some barred rock x Delawares that look similar to this.

Hmmmm... It does have decently large wattles and a nicely sized comb, so it might be a roo.

That is a cockerel, if you are positive about the age.

At two months old, pullets never have bright red comb and wattles, plus the legs are super thick and bright yellow. You rarely get bright yellow legs like that on BR pullets or even BR pullet crosses.
