I am curious to know what you may think about our newest silkie chicks! Trying to hedge bets on “pullet or roo” guesses.
Three chicks in question, the youngest (dark partridge?), black juvenile, and slightly older white splash.
I included more pictures of the splash since that’s the one I am most suspicious of being a roo. I can’t tell if I see streamers starting on him! But there are also still casings around some of his/her head feathers.
We just got them and are trying to let them settle in before putting much stock in their behavior. I will say though, the oldest one, the white splash, is who I see most often see in an alert posture. Head high and looking around.
But they’ve only been here for less than a week and have a lot to take in! So maybe it’s situational and not just “roo” behavior?
Overall I feel like they all have flat combs compared to the silkies we got 2 years ago. The little roo’s we raised back then had noticeably raised combs by these ages - but I am by no means an expert! Far from it, ha!
Lastly, in addition to sex guesses, any insight into the youngest one’s coloration? I suspect dark partridge but was told the flock she came from had no partridges?
Thanks!
