Sexing this 4 week Wyandotte! Now with [IMG]

Lothiriel, could also be the fact it has been plonked on a random chair!

Anyway, its not a huge deal at all really

And Aoxa: It's simply for the looks! There are definitely other breeds that are similar and quite beautiful, but I just really like the Wyandottes. Not sure why, just personal taste I guess.

If I cant find one locally though I will most likely have to get something else.

I second that. Of all the breeds I have owned, I like the Wyandotte the least in terms of temperment. Most were anti-social at best, and the others were down-right mean!

To stay on topic, your particular bird looks like a Partridge Rock to me....

A partridge rock is a beautiful bird, and almost all rocks are friendly. Especially the barred variety

Agreed! My very first chickens were 3 Barred Rocks and 3 RIRs

The biggest egg I ever got came from a BR. And they are all such sweethearts

This bird has far too much red to be a pure partridge rock.

ETA: My PR chicks also had no chipmunk when they were babies. They were almost solid brown with light speckles on their faces.

3wk partridge rock (notice no solid red feathers like this chick has):

I will have to start considering some other breeds then!

This pullet hunting expedition is proving quite challenging actually. Lots of 1 day old chicks available locally (of multiple different breeds), but none 5+ weeks old which is what I am after!

Seems ridiculous to have a pullet shortage, but even our local stockfeeds store that sells poultry has a 2 week waiting list- for crossbred layers!!

The chick is indeed a Wyandotte (in the original picture on page one.) If you go to feathersite.com and look at the Wyandotte chicks, you will see that this chick is marked like a gold laced Wyandotte

Here is one of my Blue Laced Red rooster chicks~

Looks like an Easter Egger.

But either way I highly recommend EE's if your looking to get more chickens. They are friendly, cute, and lay all different colored eggs!

nothing about that baby says EE to me, and def not a Wyandotte either

if you want a friendly beautiful gold-laced bird get a gold-laced cochin, mine is gorgeous and one of my friendliest easiest to handle hens, my two kids can both easily pet and hug her and she eats out of everyone's hands

our gold-laced Wyandotte on the other hand is flighty, NOT friendly, stubborn, and a PITA....
