Sexing this 4 week Wyandotte! Now with [IMG]

The chicken in the original picture "resembles" a Golden laced wyandotte a little, but doesn't look right. Looks like a roo, not a pullet.

Here is our Golden Laced Wyandotte hen "Skittle" when she was just under 5 weeks old. By four or five weeks the lacing really starts to show....

Here's what she looks like at 18 weeks... She has only a single comb, but we dont show our birds so we don't care about the comb.

They are fantastic birds! Our two Silver laced girls are nice as well, both silvers have different lacing patterns.

I might add that our GLW is the most gentle, quietest and easy going hen I've ever seen. She is utterly sweet and barely makes a peep when you handle her. The only hen I have that is more docile as far as handling, feeding etc... is our Frizzle Cochin "Chloe" who is in my avatar. But she is a PITA to the younger birds a lot.

For the sake of this thread I feel like I should inform you all of what it ends up looking like!

I wont be getting it (him.. her.. whatever..

), but its interesting to read all these responses! For the moment I have sourced a local red crossbreed pullet that I will pick up on Friday. Of course, its going to be a plain jane, but I really needed another as soon as possible to keep my current chick company.

But I will definitely be finding myself a special coloured chookie in the near future

Lovely birds you all have by the way.

But for general information, blue laced red wyandotte chicks DO come in that color(it's a wheaton phase-as the prior post with photos). And if they are not breeding quality and have a single comb, they do look like an EE-you just get a real surprise as it feathers out.

I think people will be surprised to see the color transformation that a Wyandotte chick goes through

I think what people are forgetting is that you do not live in the USA , but in Australia and the breeds of chickens available to you are going to look a little different than what we are used to seeing here.

The important thing is that you have fun with your chickens! Good luck with finding the birds you want!!

Both my blue Wyandottes are batty as a loony bin! Compared to the Barred rocks, red stars, and black stars I have? Yeah, Wyandottes are pretty spazzy, haha!

Wow.. Yeah, that's not a wyandotte at all!

Why is it that you want a wyandotte anyways? Is it just for looks? If it's for temperament, my girl is somewhat wild, and from others I've heard, they have wild ones as well. They are extremely beautiful though!

Here's my girl Dott

You can get this lacing in other breeds as well. Like Cochin. Cochins are very friendly. I have three girls

Depends on the birds and how much time you handle and spend with them. We have great dotts-friendly, eat out of your hands, come when you call and you can hold any of them(Roos included)-our "spaz" is the one RIR hen we have.

The hatchery Wyandottes ( Except the blues) I have gotten in the past were flighty and very aggressive to my other birds, especially the silver laced variety. My BLRWs from private breeders are calm, gentle and get along well with my other breeds. My BLRW rooster will tolerate other roosters as long as they don't challenge him. They are beautiful to look at and a joy to own

It's disappointing and frustrating that people equate duckwing to EE and then defend it. There are MANY breeds that have SoP duckwing pattern. I fail to see where ANYONE would confuse this chick (below) with an EE.

PeakyBeaky, this comment is addressing the "OMG duckwing it's an EE" trend, not directed toward you.

That is the safest
