A blackbird enjoys a fallen apple. My chickens showed no interest

Lots of work at the farm & in the yard today. Two coop cleanouts, planted & mulched more garlic, and pulled the Swiss chard. It was 75F today, unheard of in NY, and my sinuses are paying for it.

Stunning bird!

Louise found my parsnips. Lol

Interesting that they attempt to hide them. Some of the Catalonian bantams did much the same. Old instincts, or an adapatation I wonder.
My turkeys regularly bury their eggs. I had an order for 10 dz turkey hatching eggs. I knew a bunch of hens were laying in a fence line. I couldn't find a nest. The next day I was looking and seen an egg peaking out of leaves.... there was over a dz. I left 2 and daily I was finding at least 4 eggs.

I saw Maria tidbitting for her chicks (still together at 3 months) close enough to me this afternoon that I could actually see what she was encouraging them to eat, and was surprised to find it was mushrooms. Not whole ones or standing ones, but pieces of caps of those that had been knocked off their stems and broken by passing feet (chicken or human). Looking it up, I see that they're quite nutritious, with a good range of B vits, tons of vit D, and plenty of protein including some lysine and methionine. I learn something new every day with chickens!

I had a hen tidbit buckthorn berries for her brood. They didn't like the berries, spit them out and yelled at her something fierce. :gig

I love the picture, great pose and stunning colours! She looks fierce 🙂.
I really don't want Lima sleeping in the old coop but this was so endearing I left her there.
Especially after leaving her alone in the run for several nights. It's a sweet contrast with the photo you posted of her lonely in the dark.

I have a question regarding roosters behaviour. Is it possible that they act "jealous" with their hens or is this a human notion ?
Today our rooster Théo pecked Chipie quite severely when she joined him to dustbathe. This was just after she had gone near the younger rooster Gaston, whom he hates, to get a bit of some treats we were giving him.

Jealous guy dustbathing?
