Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I scan a variety of news sources on the web from the Tribune to the BBC.
I got sent a link to this. None of the news sites I read mentioned it.

This is going to be our future and as George Monbiot writes in one of the comments, it will wipe out intensive farming, possibly quite quickly. I expect there will be high consumer resistance initially but it is as they say a gane changer and an incredibly important news item. Far more important then most of the crap I read this morning. Why hasn't this featured in the British media?

I would want testing.... Just found out the bags of microwave popcorn give off the forever chemicals... Wondering what chemicals are in the growing process that end up in the product.

Makes me think of " Soylent Green" .
Not going to fly in most of the USA. Conventional farmer lobbyist will fight this.... But yes someday it will necessary

the Guardian is British media
that apart, I'm not so sure it'll be as popular as you seem to think it might be.

There is an American version of the Guardian.

Soylent Green was the first thing I thought of.
Popular perhaps not. There will be the usual "I don't know what's in it" as they eat another fast food burger/frankfurter.:D But, it can solve a great many problems. It will probably create others.
It already works out a lot cheaper to produce than farm reared meat in both finacial and environmental terms. There's a lot we get that isn't popular but it doesn't go away.:p

I have 2 feeders and 14 chickens.
I have 4 feeders for 10 chickens. A lot of bullying happen around food between my chickens.

We happened to watch it yesterday (saw it first more or less when it came out) and thought it was kind of dated 🤣.

A friend of mine (US based) is involved with one of the companies doing this. They are quite far advanced technically for everything except steak which is apparently the hardest. I am not sure what their commercialization plans are though.

I can see it being like a lot of new things. Extreme resistance/enthusiastic acceptance from some in the beginning. Gradual acceptance from masses over time, especially if it becomes all that's available to most people.

As long as they don't outlaw or regulate out of existence home grown meat, poultry, eggs, gardens...

Chilly but dry. I'm going to thankfull of the new kit I bought to deal with the Brisish weather.
I found this when I was cleaning the coop. Not sure which hen it came from. All the others poops were okay.

The grey hen is the sick Legbar. Two more crop massages this afternoon. After each one she drinks a lot.

I think they might break down a lot of resistance with the more ethical option pitch.
