The mighty Skeksis

I had to pull what remained of a soft shelled egg from out of Skeksis's vent a few minutes ago. She had seemed a bit off all day. I noticed what looked some some poo stuck to her fluff around the vent area and grabbed a paper towel to remove it, when I discovered it was actually part of the egg shell. She was none too happy about the process, but hopefully she will be alright now.

I just came across this, which is more than a bit worrying:
"5 mass produced fish-meal products were tested from around the world and found to contain not only considerable levels of antibiotics but hundreds of antibiotic resistant genes." Spector Food for Life p.272 citing a study from 2017.
Is this what is used to feed salmon and other fish in bassins? I know of wrong things in this industry and don’t eat fish from bassins/ see farming. Only wild fish. In animal food for consumption it’s not allowed to add fish or meat.

Our world food supply (and that of our animals), is so messed up. Grow as much as you can on your own.
So true for animals and processed food. The strait forward products, like veggies, rice, bread, beans etc should be fine. (I hope they are fine)

That both fishmeal and mealworms come from areas of the world that we have no control over the methods of production or the quality/standard of the product.
The mealworms they sell in the shops here are often from farmers who were looking for other means to make a living.
Some claim to use no medicines and are very sustainable.

You're making me very grateful for my brother. He's a recreational fisherman and I'm often given some excess catch.
In the Netherland they warned people not to fish in the Westerschelde anymore because the fish contains way too much PAC’s ( the chemicals used in Tefal/raincoats fabrics and such).
So even fish from recreative fishermen can be a bad choice.
I hate it that my country is so polluted.

Traders here mix up fish and even meat too to profit. A few years ago some traders sold horse meat as more expensive cow meat.

And now time for some frolic news.

The wild ducks are making couples and are mating again.
Every spring a few ducks appear in our garden. Today we had these 2 visitors.

❤️❤️

My chickens didn’t care. They were more interested in what I was doing inside the house, standing under the roof/overhang because of the wet snow. It was chilly today. 🥶

yes

only in a few countries; it is normal practice in most of the world. And if the supply chain is long and/or the feed highly processed (i.e. ingredients are unrecognizable), who knows what's actually in it?
