Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

In the Netherland they warned people not to fish in the Westerschelde anymore because the fish contains way too much PAC’s ( the chemicals used in Tefal/raincoats fabrics and such).
So even fish from recreative fishermen can be a bad choice.
I hate it that my country is so polluted.

Traders here mix up fish and even meat too to profit. A few years ago some traders sold horse meat as more expensive cow meat.
Fortunately the waters where my brother fishes are remote and clean.

I had to pull what remained of a soft shelled egg from out of Skeksis's vent a few minutes ago. She had seemed a bit off all day. I noticed what looked some some poo stuck to her fluff around the vent area and grabbed a paper towel to remove it, when I discovered it was actually part of the egg shell. She was none too happy about the process, but hopefully she will be alright now.
She may look off for a couple of days and you may get some odd looking piles under her roosting spot.

Is this what is used to feed salmon and other fish in bassins? I know of wrong things in this industry and don’t eat fish from bassins/ see farming. Only wild fish. In animal food for consumption it’s not allowed to add fish or meat.

So true for animals and processed food. The strait forward products, like veggies, rice, bread, beans etc should be fine. (I hope they are fine)
We've got a vegetable supply problem where I am. There's been a bit on the news about it. Some blame the weather. Some blame Brexit. Some blame the big buyers hold on the market. It mainly seems to be the out of season veg that's in short supply. People are not used to eating what grows when it grows.

hopefully that is the extent of it. i see a lot of egg bound horror stories in my fb chicken groups.
As long as she lays eggs with no shells she won't get eggbound. This risk from shell less eggs is infection somewhere higher up the reproductive tract. Egg bound is usually easily noticed and if caught quickly not terribly serious.

3C and on and off sunny this afternoon.
The person who keeps the two plots closest to the chicken coops was at the allotments today without their partner. We had quite a long conversation. They won't be planting (the plant flowers not veg) until early April and even then they said if the chickens do dig something up it will make a change from the all the rest of the wildlife.:D This person has a soft spot for Fret.

when i locked up the coop for the night, i saw there was a big wet splotch on the coop floor underneath her spot on the roost bar, and it had already attracted some of those dastardly fire ants.
