At the moment the family aren't proving to be as entertaining as the chickens due to sickness, flat out busy, new baby busy and I've got things to do at home.
I am trying to take my youngest out for dinner but the resturant I want to take her to is booked up a long way ahead.

That chicken in the black and white picture looks a bit of a handfull. Is that one of those extremely dangerous cockerels I keep reading about on BYC?

I would like to ask you a question if I may without causing any offense, why this thread? I've been surprised at the number of views this thread gets. Chatting is discouraged, unless it's about chickens of course. The chickens that feature in the thread are only special in their mistreatment. It's not like they are rare heritage breeds.
I turn up daily and post what is essentially a diary.

We do have really great regular contributors with a wide range of keeping conditions, nationalities, and views and I keep the thread running in part to offset some of the more dogmatic views on feed and keeping conditions.

None of the above makes you any less welcome here but I can't help wondering why people come back month in month out to read about the not so nice side of chicken keeping.

I am here simply because of you, Shad. I like you initially because of the chicken stories you wrote, more touching and more romantic than most of the stories I've read. Secondly I like that you are confronting and no bullshit. Thirdly, you and this thread is a wealth of knowledge with very interesting discussions and reads.

I am still waiting for Major's story though.

Haven't posted pics for a while.

Meimei on the right with a poopy-ish butt. If you look closely, you can see that part of the butt area is naked. My belief is that she dropped these feathers because she kept pooping on them. She adapted and now the poop will fall nicely . I think she is OK.

I am happy to announce that we took off Light's saddle a month ago. Light is in the back.

Tina is being quite a sweetie.

They look very good ! Nougat, whom I mentioned when we spoke about Meimei's poopy butt, has her poopy butt back and so has Brune an other of my ex-batt. We will have to clean/trim them depending on what they agree to.
I hope you are morally surviving work overload and land searching !

I often read on BYC that bantam roosters will do fine with standards. This is mostly not true for little Théo who is cross bantam : he really hurts the hens trying to stabilize himself mating. They will walk away or hide from him, and so he has become a dustbath rapist.
I would also find it funny if he wasn't so intent on Blanche, who hasn't healed from a hawk attack at Xmas.

Btw: Here we get a state pension at 67.

The "polite" term is "senior", as in "senior discount". It can start as early as 50 or 55 for some companies, probably no later than 65 though.

No idea when "elderly" starts but as long as we are feeling well hopefully it is "at least older than me"

Semi-related - Old is 15 years older than whatever age you are.

Tax is Pepper. I like how the green shows up in this picture. I've thought about draping some willows or switchgrass to shade the nest. She doesn't like her face in the sun when she is there. On the other hand, she could use the other nest box that is nearly all shaded.
