Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

They are a fairly new breed in Oz. I suspect a small gene pool & inbreeding is probably responsible ~ but as we all know, I'm no scientist. :idunno
Exactly. I once hatched some Vorwerk from eggs a breeder friend had sent me, but I rather soon sold them off as I found them unproductive, flighty, dumb and cantankerous.

All these wonderful characteristics you can read this breed is supposed to have, must stem from at least the previous century. Apart from their striking looks, I found nothing worthwhile with this breed and was quite disappointed.

Here they are as chicks

And here some of them with the flock

Dumb & mean. My Frizzled SLW used to get down low & chase them round the yard like a snake. She was the only one who could really keep them in line. :lau

And the Cream Legbars are keeping to each other because they were all purchased together and view each other as siblings?
That is most likely in their case. Fret on the other hand isn't from the same place and isn't quite like them but she hangs around with them or Henry and Matilda.

Ok..I'm never gonna get caught up here :th
I am WAY late to the party.
I will continue to read back though. But I wanted to jump in and let you know @Shadrach I am really enjoying this chicken drama diary. And I am thrilled you have found a place to excercise your chickening skills.
And,
I love Henry.

But I can't pay tax it's against my religion. :lau

The problems just keep on coming.
I've been telling the grey ones that they need to be miixing with the red ones because they're getting the reputation of being unsociable. Some rather unkind person went so far as to call them racists and when I go on BYC and mention that similar breeds like to stick together some people tell me I'm not just delusional, I'm horrid as well.
I don't mind being horrid but this would require some serious photo shop skills.View attachment 2931881View attachment 2931882View attachment 2931883View attachment 2931885
I have personally observed this same behavior with the call ducks. Don't ask me how they know what their own color is...but they do tend to hang out more with birds of their own feather!
It always blows my mind.
So I believe you.
