I'm not guvnor, honest. It's the chickens see. I never had a care in my life until I fell in love with chickens. I've tried, honest I have, but the chickens, well they're a worry and they find my heart.

Janeka's chicks are 1 week old today and one of them is way ahead of the others in feather development - I've not seen one grow them so fast before

That's what my brooder babies looked like at a week old. Wing feathers almost fully formed, tail feathers coming in, and shoulder feathers dust peeking out the fluff (pun intended). Two (three?) days later and Cruella's chicks still don't look like that

I can promise you it's the same. Unfortunately I took photos of only that chick, whose feather doesn't come up as well on camera. This is a chick on day 8, for comparison. Imagine the same wing and tail development, just less shoulder growth

and do you have an explanation for the rapid growth? I'm assuming not environment since all 4 of mine have shared the same one.

In your case, I think it's just some kind of gene at play? Another possibility that could be affecting it to a degree would be the chick not sleeping directly under Janeka. During warmer days, some of Cruella's chicks would sleep next to her, not under her
