Lea is a hen on my watch list. I think she was one of last years arrivals. She has scaly leg mite and I used this for the first time on her legs rather than Vaseline.

That looks like a good find.

It's worked very well on body lice and mites. It's been one of the few sprays I've found with just Permethrine in one can get here in the UK.

Surgical Spirit works well if you can dip the legs in it. Fast evaporation rate, minimal residue.

Until I can get the roost bars sorted out I can't really use anything that stays sticky.

I've been making myself highly unpopular this afternoon by trying to inspect and treat when required a few hens that I think may have parasites of one sort or another. This means capturing them with minimum stress.
I've been checking 4 of the more people tolerant hens as a kind of random indicator. My reasoning is in such cramped conditions if one seemingly healthy looking hen has parasites then the probability is others have as well.
This afternoon I did a random selection of six. A few dirty bums but otherwise clean.

Slip died this morning, underwieght in freezing tempeatures having been bred to produce ten times the amount of eggs her poor body was capable of.
She did get a few hours of living like a chicken in the last weeks of her life.
I did sit in the coop run last night for a while with her in my lap trying to warm her up before I slipped her in the middle of the others. She didn't struggle or object in any way and all I could think to say to her was sorry.

Awww. I missed this, Shad. I know you think it doesn’t mean anything, but I am sorry she didn’t live longer to enjoy the good life you are working on providing. I know, I know, you don’t “provide” life, but I’m at a loss for better words at the moment.
