Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I candled today (day 5). All four eggs are developing! One broke on Wednesday, but the ones remaining are doing good, by the looks of things.

Kolovos sleeps right next to her every night now, and a few other hens (and pullets) have joined him. It's very sweet to see him supporting his broody.

I'm so thankful she's being such a good broody so far, I tell her thank you every time I see her!

Honey the magnificent blind chicken has been living inside our house since April 6th of this year.

At the beginning, we were feeding her by holding a plate in front of her. Then we worked out a system where we place food in two special bowls in her cage, where she got used to be in and out after learning. (The bottom of cage door is a bit higher than ground, so it took her a while to understand that she needs to lift her foot to cross it.)

The amazing thing is, Honey is better than before she went blind! She definitely has had fluid in her belly for a while and she was declining. But now she does not pant and is full of energy, and wants to eat SO MUCH every day. Frankly it is a lot of work to keep her belly happy...

Wet feed does not satisfy her... we chop up all kinds of things including zucchini, banana, papaya, apple, cucumber, watermelon, tomato, cabbage, corn, and mix it with feed, and a variety of seeds. Our fridge is half of her food. 😂 she is not able to drink water so she only gets fluid through food.

Here she is encountering Poopy (left). Poopy was limping again (probably after another fight) and we brought her in for some eggs.

Sometimes we take her out (Honey is on the very right) for dust bathing or sunbathing, or whatever. Inky likes to go after her. In this photo, she emerged from her bath and went after Honey.

:love it sounds like Honey is a very lucky lady, to have you to give her the best life possible in her circumstances.
