Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Three hours this morning. The torrential downpours this afternoon were forcasted so morning time out in the mostly dry seemed the best bet. Sure enough it pissed down this afternoon. We had thunder and lightning and some very spectacualr cloud formations. They went out to eat for maybe 15 minutes then returned to the coop. They went off to roost before 8pm.

Mow I think laid a shell less egg. There was an emplty membrane on the coop floor this morning. She's hasn't been her usual self today and was on the roost bar in the coop when I arrived in the afternoon. What I am slightly concerend about is where are the contents of the membrane and what were they? I assume the contents got eaten and that means by the chicks as well I imagine. It's probably allright if the contents were okay, but not so great if they weren't.

Some of my bantams gave me shell less eggs too in the first period after they started to lay. And one Tournaisis hen I had did so when she got a bit older.

A few times I just found the membrane. The egg must have been tasty because the inner was all eaten.

With a young hen like Mow I wouldn’t worry unless she keeps on doing this.

Janice on the coop roof. Taken last werk when we finally had a little sunny weather.

Aw, Mow looks so mopey. Poor little cottonball. Hope she rebounds quickly.
