Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Once again have found myself very much behind with this thread 🫣
On my  very quick read up I started wondering how old Henry is? I'm sure that has been answered before but my memory is horrible. I was thinking of my older Sussex rooster who's age has seemed to be showing more recently and got curious :)
I have an unfortunate lack of recent chicken photos to provide as tax so I will have to make do with an older one for now

Impressive wattles on that boy! Reminds me of the wattles on Tsouloufati males

These three ladies have been through some reproductive issues lately but are mostly doing OK now.

Light hesitated to go downstairs after being weighed.

Lovely photos. Health problems or not, it's easy to see your chickens know they're cherished.

Missed the rain by about half an hour.:wee. Seven hours today.

There have been some posts on how oddly chickens can behave. What I've found is they change over time, like us I imagine, change driven by experience.
I've been enjoying watching Mow's interaction with the chicks. I think the probably only female chick and Mow may become friends. Carbon and Fret have been friends for years and while they're treating Mow more and more like an adult, they don't really qualify as friends.
This is the female chick.

I am enjoying getting to know my flock better, and find their behavior interesting.

It's extremely hot here today, 97° and humid enough to feel like 110° . I cleaned out the bucket waterer and they spent some time afterwards drinking the cooler water.

I dug a hole in the run, and dumped about 2 liters of water in the bottom...instant hen fascination. But when I returned about five minutes later Rahab and her brood had taken possession of the hole. They were dustbathing and relaxing in the dampness.

Nobody really knows. He was a rescue I've been told. He was there before covid and I'm told his previous keeper had him for a "couple of years." Not even exactly sure how long he's been at the field.
Eight years old would seem a reasonable guess with the information I have.
